Depends, if it's for marriage, wait until you have a stable income and are done w/ school. If it's not, (or could be but not officially) then wait until you are both emotionally mature. I've seen too many good guys (and young women) disappear inside after a relationship, ending in either emotional fallout or suicide in many cases.

I think dating comes with great responsibility; it should aim toward marriage through commitment, and both of you should be equally yoked with God at the center of your relationship. Dating while not being equally yoked leads to a disruption of what you are meant to achieve; it is God's timing. When you have achieved a steady and consistent relationship with God, the relationship you so wished for will be presented to you. When you think waiting for his timing involves too much, think of God shaping you to become the best version of yourself for your loved one!

Well old lady coming in to post some life advice.

Separate the idea of a date and the concept of dating someone. It's good to learn how to go out to dinner or a movie or a game of disc golf etc with a member of the opposite sex that you'd like to get to know better and hold a get to know you better conversation. And to keep from getting too attached to any one person you can have social outings with different people.

Most of that should stay pretty casual when you're in high school. And keep most of the physical stuff out of those relationships, physical stuff is just going to unleash a war against your good sense and good judgment.

Eventually when you get to know someone who is irreplaceable, focus in exclusively on that person (start "dating" them) and discussing the life you want to build together and what your expectations of life together will be. If you want to honor God, ideally the period between seriously dating someone and marrying them will be a year or two at most. Longer and there's a good chance you'll give into temptation or just start living together and playing at marriage. Shorter and you may not know your partner as well as you think you should.

And beware people who won't take no for an answer. They're bad news and if you let them in it's going to be very hard to kick them out again.
