I believe that the real reason God laid down the law against promiscuity and premarital sex is to prevent a world full of fatherless children. Back then there really wasn't anything in the way of birth control.
The law about not sleeping with prostitutes has a different reason (defiling your body which is a temple to the holy spirit).

Note, I'm not saying that it is ok now that there is birth control.
The real reason that God gave us sex as a blessing and also gave instructions on how to use it properly is that sex is not only the physical union, but there are spiritual sides to it, too, sides that a person who is not alive spiritually is not able to understand.

According the OT sexual activities of the following kinds mainly are condemned:
- sex with animals
- same gender sex (homosexuality)
- sex with a married woman (wayward wife)
- sex with close relatives
- sex with a mother and her daughter

Even today I think we should strongly try to avoid the above mentionned sexual activities! All are dangerous and harmful, some outright disgusting in my view. I think most people should be able to renounce above mentionned activities without any difficulty.

i really dont know what else to say, I mean people may use it forevil purposes but sex itself as a non-living entity can not be good or evil in any way it just is. God intended it for good and if done properly aka within marriage then as long as both partners are satisfied...thumbs up

Sex is a natural act within human beings that is blessed holy and righteous within the confines of a marriage when Jesus was on the earth, he did say that if you even look upon someone to lust (willful mind and thought activity) you are guilty of sin.
Matthew 5:27-28

New International Version (NIV)

Adultery

[SUP]27 [/SUP]“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.[SUP]28 [/SUP]But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

The above bible text says to me that it is completely impossible for every man not to be an adulterer! Every man on this earth, whether unbeliever or believer becomes an adulterer almost daily! All men's faces should be depicted in internet and television daily and be condemned to prison and detested by everyone for being an adulterer, daily! Shame on us, daily! Shame on us, shame on us! What wretched creatures are we men?!

i have been celibate for more then five years now. And i will continue that way until i die, or He comes for me.

Nowhere in all of Scriptures does it teach masturbation is sinful. If you lust to masturbate than that is indeed a sinful. Not the masturbating, but the lusting. Many people in this generation thinks that it is impossible to masturbate without lusting, for them that may be the case. But it is 100% possible to masturbate without lusting, the problem is, too many people in this generation are selfish, and are not willing to do what is needed in order to masturbate without lusting. What is needed is to go a long period of time without masturbating. For example if a person goes 3 weeks or more without masturbating at all, they can achieve the desired goal of masturbation by merely washing themselves in the shower while singing the national anthem, in which they did not lust at all, therefore committing no sin whatsoever. But how many in this wicked selfish generation are willing to go without for any length of time, in order to achieve masturbation without lusting? Few, very few.

^i^
Yes, I think you are special. I admire you for your self-discipline. It surely frees a lot of time for you, time which you may use for a better purpose! Though your sins may not be decreased in number but your sins also will be special and not of the common type of normal men.

What I do not like so much in your text is the folowing:
"But how many in this wicked selfish generation are willing to go without for any length of time, in order to achieve masturbation without lusting?"
It sounds a little bit like the pharisee saying to himself: "God, I thank you that I am not such a sinner as others" or the like, like:

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Luke 18
9To some who were
confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus
told this parable: 10“Two men went up to
the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The
Pharisee stood up and prayed about[SUP]a[/SUP] himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not
like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax
collector. 12I fast twice a week
and give a tenth of all I get.’

13“But the tax collector
stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast
and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14“I tell you that this
man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who
exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be
exalted.”

Beautifully said!

Do you also mean, that when it is commended to admire what God has created,e.g beautiful flowers, the nature, animals, then why should it be forbidden or narrowly restricted to admire the beauty of a human being?

But it is 100% possible to masturbate without lusting
I always thought the same thing.

But as for the main question - No. Sex is not "evil" and was never expressed as evil unless it's within fornication or adultery.

Adultery (fornication while married) is the only reason as to why a married couple can divorce.

People may claim that Birth Control is a sin but it isn't. If it were, then there'd be a huge contradiction within the Bible and between God and humanity. If I explain, it'll be a lot of text - but long story short, if non-procreational sex were a sin, then the whole idea of marriage would be like God giving us a defective gift. "It's okay if you stay single, you'll face the same amount of possible troubles that the average single person may face. However, if you marry, there's even More possibility that you'll sin and fall into temptation than those who aren't married." Why would God allow us to give in to marriage if the chances of sinning were greater than those who aren't married? God and Jesus Christ wants us to flee from temptation and try our best not to sin, why would God create marriage if a sin of non-procreational sex were an option? For God is all knowing and perfect, why would he give us the opportunity of a defective gift?

A couple (or a person within the couple) may have selfish reasons as to not having a child yet or at all..but such reasons are rare, and I kind of don't necessarily even count that possibility, as most likely, a successful married couple will eventually decide to have at least one child. Still, the method of Birth Control isn't sinful, but their motive can be.

Of Course, Abortions are sinful. Technically, that shouldn't even be considered "Birth Control", it's murder..we all know that...lol..Some of us are on Birth Control medication that may cause an abortion without us knowing (which I'm not too sure what the possibilities are) so to play it safe, those (like myself) who take such medication because of an illness or so, if you were to marry and not decide to have children yet, use a condom - don't solely rely on the pill.

But overall, sex is not "evil" and it only is if it's within fornication or adultery..or if you're severely hurting..like beating up your wife or husband during the activity..which that'll just be ridiculous..

Is sex evil?

Let me put it in a superordinated perspective:

What is the definition of "evil"? Evil is bad. Bad is sin.
What is the definition of "sin"? Sin is the breaking of a law. Therefore sin will be punished!

For example:
Someone holds his finger in a flame of fire. The finger gets burned. He has broken a law of God which says: "Flame of fire burns your skin, so be careful!". The punishment is nothing else than a burned finger.

Let's generalize it: Instead of "sex" we can use "action". So the question asks:

Is a certain action evil? Or: Is a certain action breaking the law and therefore be punished?

To return to a special action which is called "sex":

Is a special sexual action breaking the law and therefore be punished?

If the answer is "yes" then it is evil, if the answer is "no" then it is not!

It is that simple! :)

I completely agree! I was just giving my reasons for the laws. :)

I've come to this conclusion in my mind that sex is evil, and that giving into sex is giving into the body instead of the soul. Then I realized that God made us sexual beings and said it is okay to have sex in the confines of your marriage. I know it is essential for single Christians to lead celibate lives before marriage, but how far does that go and does that even include masturbation (wouldn't that involve lustful thoughts at times?) Sometimes I think it does, but then I wonder how Christians who never get married or lose a spouse and never re-marry get by. Do they become asexual for life in the sense that they ignore that temptation for good? I'm wondering because I have convinced myself that sex is an evil, but I often forget that sex in marriage is okay.
Yes, this has been a constant problem among Christians.

Convincing ourselves of what is right and wrong and making our own conclusions on the matter is not productive in the Christian walk. Weather you are looking at something unnacceptalbe and coming to the conclusion that it is ok or weather you look at something acceptable and come to the conclusion its evil you're making the same error.

Sex can be done in several evil ways, but you will not find scripture saying it in and of itself evil. While difficult it is important to come to conclusions in light of all of scripture and not lean on particular verses to make a point.

As for how Christians that do not marry get by, they have a particular calling. As the term eunuch is (metaphorically) used for that calling in scripture, I would say in general they don't have drive in the same way one called to marriage would. They may not have it at all.

Oh my Lord. That post is like that first breath after a long dive. Discerning right from wrong is quite straightforward, but very often Chrisitans don't understand enough to use those simple steps you outlined.

Q: Is Sex Evil?
A: Not if it's according to God's design. Then it's blessed. Outside of that; however, it is sin.

1st premiss... OF course sex is not evil it is a neccessary biological function, saying it is a gift when it is a FUNCTION rather distorts the scriptures. The the topic is human sex...RIGHT? So what makes HUMAN sex different than ANIMAL sex??? Zero kinda gets in the neighborhood...
The reason God gives specific dictates about sex to mankind is so that WE DO NOT ACT LIKE ANIMALS ... cuz a world full of fatherless children is exactly what we have now yet we have TONS of birth control available... so that can't really be the answer can it ????

I made a small mistake. I shuld have written:
Is a special sexual action breaking a law (legal or Godly law) and therefore be punished?

If the answer is "yes" then it is evil, if the answer is "no" then it is not!

First of all your body brain spirit should know the legal laws of your country, what concerns sexual activities.
Secondly the laws in the Holy Bible, mainly to be found in Leviticus.
Thirdly the recommendations of the apostels.

But if you live in the Holy Spirit then you should use your Holy Spirit and love in order to know what is appropriate and what is not! That comes before any law. Do what the Holy Spirit tells you to be right, having less regard to the possible gratitude or punishment of your body.

I do not understand your question. Please be more specific! Thank you.
Daniels prayer was against the law of Babylon. If his payer was not sin then sin cannot be the transgression of a legal law.
