Please pray for me during this time of transition. I've been on anti-depressants for about two and a half years (zoloft and abilify). I'm in the process of trying to reduce or completely get off of the zoloft. I have reduced the zoloft 25% (from 200mg to 150mg) and it has gone well this week. I've read horror stories though about people trying to get off of zoloft the lower the doses go. I have struggled with major depression my entire life and have been suicidal many times. I don't want to get back there, and at the same time I don't want to be on meds my entire life either.

Praying for you to get off Zoloft. My husband got off of it with no issues. Are you going off Abilify too? I just got off a hypnotic similar to Ambien with the help of a pain management doc. It took 6 weeks of weaning, which considering I had been on it for maybe 20 years, was quite easy.

What are you doing to get support and help for the depression? Mental illness is not something to fool around with. I've heard if you are depressed for a year, you need a year of AD's. If you are depressed for 2 years, you will need 5 years of AD. Anything after 10 years, means you are a lifer. Really, there is nothing wrong with taking these meds if they help.

My husband fell into a deep depression when his father died when he was 14, and I did not figure it out till about 8 years ago (age 48), when we went for marriage counseling for our marriage that was falling apart. He was taking 10 mg of Celexa and needed 40 mg, and this year we had to add Wellbutrin to his cocktail. He won't do counseling but the drugs help. I am just glad it was such a simple fix and we saved our marriage.

Please reconsider your idea that "you don't want to be on meds all your life."

I will pray that God will lead you. I was on meds for bipolar for 15 years. God did heal me, and I have been totally fine for over 8 years and no meds. But I did not just go off. I changed my whole lifestyle, and added exercise, playing music, went to Seminary and had my daughter help me with emotions, started Christian meditation. I have structure to my life. I know God led me on this healing journey. But I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and so far God has not healed me of that, so I stay on very toxic meds that fail horribly, just to function.

I trust God is in control, and I will be praying that you find the balance in meds and not meds that God wants for you.

Praying God will remove your need for medication. Also praying the transition of lowering your dosage will not give rise to depression. I pray other brothers and sisters near you will help you along in this matter. God Bless!

I understand your concern. I went off clonazepam too quickly over the summer. I had extreme nausea, and two weeks of total insomnia. I had to go on valium for sleep. This was in August. I went on a slow taper and I have been completely off all medication for about three weeks, with no side effects! Praise God that He healed me! I don't miss these medications at all! I will pray for you.
Love in Christ.

Thank you all for your prayers!! Like Angela, I'm making structural changes to my life and am in counseling.

Due to childhood abuse and other factors, I've dealt with depression pretty much all my life. I've been on meds 4 or 5 times since high school and would like to just settle one way or the other (on or off meds).

Thanks again for your prayers! It means a lot to me!

Praying for you!By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

Our physical mental spiritual health are intertwined.........in preparing to go off the Zoloft get into working out every day you can .....get into meeting with others and pray together.....get into being of service to others by volunteer work.......this will be taking care of your physical spirtual health and give you internal strength in meeting any mental challenge Zoloft may present......Also talk to your physician about same and your minister. I pray you will do all and be well in eliminating the zoloft from your life.......when you your physician and minister believe you are ready to do so.
