Some breeds of dogs nip, and it is a Herding insinct.
My daughter has a Red heeler she nips as a warning.

Some bites are misunderstood, they are only nips as a warning to back off. This may happen if a dog is being teased. Also most herding dogs will nip at people and children to try to herd them. But not to hurt them. This can be trained out. There are so many reason a dog will bite, it all depends on the situation, the breed and the specific dog.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. In most all states there are laws against animals who bite people (as well as their owners) and local Health Departments have an Animal Control Unit to also address the problem. You might wish to consider visiting with your local attorney for more on this since not being a lawyer cannot offer any legal advice. I will be praying for you as you have obviously also visited with your health care practitioner to see what they can suggest since you mentioned you had an "infection".
