I'd like to request prayer for a friend of mine. She's not a Christian, heavily into new age in fact. I'm not sure exactly what has gone wrong as she hasn't been around much lately, but she's suddenly saying she's just going to become an alcoholic and that she has nothing else in her life.
She's a single mother of 2. Working at a job she hates. And some of her trouble is financial. Also she was 'swept off her feet' romantically during Christmas by an old friend, and i think something went wrong and that's adding to it all.
Perhaps other things are going on as well, i'm not sure, as she's a bit closed off.
She also said she has been cutting her arms, something i never would have thought she'd do as she seems to be into positive thinking and all that. Though she said she's tired of people asking about her arms, so for that reason alone she's quitting doing it. Though my fear is that she may just be doing it in hidden locations.
So pray for her to get through this, and for her to be saved. I'm pretty sure she knows i'm a Christian, though we've never spoken directly about what i believe. But she sometimes talks like a Christian, though her beliefs don't line up as she is plainly New Age. Pray that i will also say the right things and get the right insights to help her.
She's really a sweet person, just something is overwhelming her right now.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear of the struggles that your friend is having.
I will ask Jesus to shed some light on her struggles, and give you the insight to help her with encouraging words that will bring some light and encouragement into her world. I ask this in Jesus name. AMEN!

Father, i'm here at the Throne of Grace for Ugly and his friend.
i ask You to give my brother wisdom and knowledge when interacting with this young woman.
and Father, please show the Lord Jesus to Ugly's friend. please open her eyes to the only True
Remedy of our troubles.
thank You for understanding how overwhelming this life can be...
money, heartbreak, the difficult parts of raising children, jobs...the stress of these things
can lead us to do what we normally wouldn't.
so i ask again that Ugly's friend will see the lies she has believed, and see the Truth--
show her the Way, Abba; gently restore her broken places; be with her children,
for Jesus' sake amen.

A person cutting themselves like that is beyond my ken, the world is hard enough on a person and leaves plenty of its own scars.

I once was very close to a person who was cutting herself. I think she eventually stopped but that was just because she transferred the destructive actions to something else. I tried for years to help her but nothing I did ever helped; though I still hope that my prayers for her will be heard by the Lord. I will pray for your friend also.:)

Why don't you talk to her about Jesus, you are maybe set up by God to witness to her.

As i stated she is heavily into new age. She also can quote scripture and at times use Christian sounding terms. I'm just guessing, but i believe she may have a Christian upbringing based off some things i have seen. I've known a number of new age people and a few who also thought themselves as Christian as well. Simply discussing Jesus with them is redundant. They quickly become defensive when you try to separate their new age beliefs from Christ. They often believe in God and Christ, in some weird way, and if not defensive then will believe you share the same set of beliefs. So it's difficult to approach them.
I have given her some scripture lately, to help encourage her. I've spoken about God, without getting too specific about beliefs, to prevent any kind of debate. Spirituality did come up between us once and it was not a good conversation, so i'm treading more cautiously and preferring to let my actions speak.

Update.

First, thanks to all who commented and/or prayed.

I spoke with her again recently and she opened up in ways she has never done before. She was drunk and told me she had decided to become an alcoholic because she had nothing else in her life. She also revealed she has been suicidal most of her life and only her children have kept her from killing herself.
Also i was correct that something is up with her new boyfriend. I found out who she is dating, and this is a person just a week earlier i told her she needed to distance herself from. I believe he has the potential to be dangerous for her. He has been diagnosed with a few mental conditions and even before they dated was strongly jealous over her. In the week they dated he made her quit her job, so now she has no way to support her two children, which she was already struggling financially to begin with. Apparently strip clubs aren't that busy during the holidays.
I believe she signed up and paid for a class and now she's not working and can't afford it. A class in a new age practice at that. So she's stressing over money.

There's more going on, but this gives you an idea of what she's dealing with. So please continue to pray for her, and for me to be led to say and do the right things. Her and i are close friends and she holds me in high regard, so that is advantageous. But since she began dating this guy she has not been talking to me as much, so i'm not getting much chance to help.
