Two weeks ago, my church got word that an old friend, Marc Goodwin, had passed away suddenly. He was 53 and in amazing health. He was a pastor, coach, father, teacher, principal, husband, and mentor. There is not real reason that he should have died other than the Lord called him home. In the late 90's he was commissioned to plant a church. Unfortunately, he was forced (by God's leading) to close the doors and move on. This was when I first met his family. Hannah, his eldest, led worship in the the youth group I worked in for a short time. Within a few months, the Lord called them to Couer d'Alene, Idaho. There, they struggled while pastoring, and pricipaling. His wife, Letty, began pursuing her RN. A few years ago, I had the privilege of serving alongside Letty on a missions trip in Mexico.
I never knew Marc, but I knew his family. He lived in ID for 5 years and over 700 people attended his funeral. Here in Los Angeles, there were over 400. Marc was an incredible man. He was known for his love and commitment to people. He always said ministry starts in the home; therefore, his family came first. He was a great encourager who always saw the best in people. He was always available in times of crisis. One person told a story of a woman who attended the ID funeral. He was the cashier where Marc was shopping. He held up the line to pray for her. Another man shared that he wasn't even a part of Marc's church, but that Marc drove many miles to be with him as his wife was in the hospital dying. Both Letty and Marc spoke at that woman's funeral. Ten years later, this man was speaking at Marc's funeral about how reached out to him, a stranger whom he has no relation to. Not only that, every time Marc visited his mother in CA, he would call the man to visit. Marc was an all around incredible man. Two weeks ago tomorrow, his wife found him lying unconscious on the floor. He was pronounced dead shortly after. This man who was top in every sport, still played, still coached, and had no medical issues dropped dead instantaneously of a sudden heart attack. Please pray for the hundreds of lives affected by this sudden and untimely death. Marx was 53. He leaves behind a mother, Sally; sister, Donna; wife, Letty; daughters, Hannah (23) and Joy (15); and sons, Steven (19) and David (12).
