    Speaking in tongues

When Jesus told his diciples that they would be fishers of men, I don't think he meant trolling.

    Speaking in tongues

I think everyone gets too hung up on the groaning part and complete misses what is being said about it. The Spirit interceding for us... in accordance with the will of God. Does anyone not want that? Romans 8:26-28 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we...

    Speaking in tongues

Two questions: If someone testified that God spoke to them, would you accept their testimony? If someone was healed after being prayed for, would give God the glory for their healing?

    Speaking in tongues

Any tongues-speaker who has experienced this knows it is in the same category of manifestations of the Holy Spirit. There are at least five different kinds of tongues. Those who don't speak in tongues seem to have only one definition, which differs according to the person. Some claim Acts 2...

    Speaking in tongues

Tongues are not meaningless words. Romans 8:26-28 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the...

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

The church seems to readily accept the testimony of someone that says God spoke to them about something. Or that God brought a miraculous healing when someone prayed for them. But at the same time deny that the miracle gifts are in operation today. Cognitive dissonance.

Has the law been put aside? If so, when?

Not a paraphrase. It's the NIV translation. Thanks.

Has the law been put aside? If so, when?

Romans 7:6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Don't you believe that God speaks to us today?

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

This is a tricky subject, and the reason I launched this topic. On one hand I believe that the Holy Sprit guides us into truth, and that God speaks to people. On the other hand we are not supposed to use those things as weapons against each other.

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

I believe that God was healing through Jesus in his humanity, not that Jesus was healing as an aspect of his divinity. If that was so, why would he leave his disciples with this instruction? Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely...

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

I believe that the gift of prophecy is still in use today. But it is not delivering a continuing revelation of doctrines. And any prophecy that disagrees with the Bible should be dismissed immediately. Here's my definition of prophecy. 1 Corinthians 14:3 But the one who prophesies speaks to...

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

My other pet peeve is someone doing that with a single verse from the poetry books in the Bible. I object, and they get furious with me for disrespecting "God's Holy Word". Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

Right. That's what I call "proof-texting". Going to the Bible looking for authority to bolster your personal point of view. It's not the same as biblical proof. The opposite actually. But difficult to detect at times.

You are right, it shouldn't negate your opinion. I'm saying that is their purpose. How do you handle that? Do you let them win? Or object?

Two posters say their opinion is from God, yet disagree. Now what?

That's fine. But I am talking about two people claiming God directed insight that is 180 degrees opposite.

What if they use their supposedly "directly from God" position to nullify your opinion?
