Hi, I agree with your opinion. Am fairly new here and still trying to learn how to navigate my way around. My children would classify me as somewhat technologically challenged, but I'm learning. Before I found this site I accidentally stumbled into a chat room that lets say was not where I wanted to be. I'm looking to connect with people by texting and getting to know them. It's always interesting to learn how God has touched others lives.

Hi Princessdeb and mo4nen, I completely agree with both of you. I haven't seen them as I'm on dial up and so I can't see the cams, however I have heard them talk in ways they shouldn't on a Christian site....which says more than enough, and I mean I hear people ask things out of place for this site. Sadly, many have left the site due to the cams, I mean no disrespect in saying that...just I know the people, and only have contact with them via Yahoo IM. It's normally the younger people, teens yes, but not totally. there's the young adults who do it honestly probably more than teens. I one specific person that does this on a daily basis and so I'm to the point, if I see their nick in the room, I go to another room right away. As a Christian, I'm concerned as well. I'm just not comfortable with so many showing their body, or what they're wearing on cam/ talking about it. I know as many would tell me '' just leave the site then'' well no, why should I/we have to leave when we're here for the RIGHT reasons?

Anyways, ladies, when you sign on, click on ''I will not use a webcam'' or whatever it says, and also, ''mute voicechat'' and that should stop the issue I THINK. I'm not totally 100% certain on that. I'm sorry that things have been crazy, and you feel so uncomfortable here, please stay, continue to be a blessing, and stand for what's right! Don't be ran off by things others do and shouldn't, they wouldn't do it if a mod was on I tell you that much. They wait until there's not one around, so they can ''get away with it''. Sounds crazy hearing this from a 22 year old doesn't it? lol I just realized how odd it is comming from myself at said age! Anyways, I also totally agree, we could do without the webcams, they should be taken away, or something, have an option to block certain people's webcam would be nice but then we have to fund that idea and most of us can't afford it, so try the ''mute speaking'' thing and see if it helps.

Hope this helps, and God bless!

1. Cams are not sinful, and there is nothing inappropriate about using them in a Christian chatroom. To say that we shouldn't use them because they are misused other places is just illogical. Chat rooms themselves are misused--does that mean we ought not have a Christian chat? No. It means we are using a bit of technology for good. If people choose to do inappropriate things on cam, then we already have moderators who are watching and regulating inappropriate activity.

2. You make a good point about people not going to the singles room. That's a problem that seems to elude a solution: the lounge is usually packed full while other rooms are left empty. Sometimes the moderators try to get people to move a conversation to another room, but the problem persists.

3. I much prefer using cams than talking over text. I would rather talk face to face with someone than type back and forth. I joined CC a few months ago, and at that time I talked over text and did some voice chat, but didn't have a webcam. After using the site for a month or two, i purchased a webcam so that I could use it on CC. Cams allow us to talk to each other and eliminate much of what our imagination does when we only see what a person types or what a person sounds like, and as Christians, shouldn't we embrace this method of communication that is more real, more honest, and more human than texting to interact with our brothers and sisters around the world?

Okay. I really struggle to see the issue here.
At the end of the day, the reason this site is so popular, and there are so many regular users is because of the features it has (ie voice chat cams etc).

There are other Christian chatrooms on the internet that don't have those features, but in all honesty, they are boring!

It is not compulsory to use a camera. There is an option when you log into the room for you to choose to use it or not, however you will ALWAYS see the videos of other users who are on cam. You can also mute the sound, and drag the videos to wherever you want, so they don't get in the way of the text.

On top of all of that, THERE IS a text only room, which as the name describes, is TEXT ONLY! No sound, no pics, for people who prefer to simply type.

The cams are in no way an expression of flirtation or the like. It's simply a different way to chat. You can see the person you're talking to. Just like skype or MSN.

There are specific rules about what is suitable on cam, with regard to behaviour and even clothing. There is also a singles room for those aged 18+. This site is moderated, and if there is a need, Mods may send people to another room if they feel that is appropriate.

The admin and moderators of this site do an amazing job of maintaining this place and keeping it FREE! Not many sites on the internet with the same features, offer FREE membership. I think instead of complaining, perhaps we should be encouraging and uplifting the people who put in all the hard work to make this site, the amazing ministry that it is.

We should b on this site to fellowshi n bring people closer to Christ or witness to them,What does a cam have to do with that,This site seem more like a competition for some of the younger people to c how long n what they can do on the cam,I see them admiring themself in the cam on their pc,trying to look pretty or handsome,it's very distractive, when ur trying to fellowship with other people.Like I said before,NObody goes into the text ONLY room.Thank U I didn't realize u can move the cam because I get so upset I can't read what people r typing in the room.Well I'm sure ur not going to listen to me ,but I do wonder how everyone else feels about the cams, thank u for ur opinon God bless

Deb, I'll go a little farther than you. The internet is an EXTREMELY sinful place. Christian sectors on the net probably makes up barely a whole number percentage (1% at the very most is my guesstimate) of the entire thing. The rest is secular, and the vast, VAST majority is (again, guessing here) sinful. I believe there shouldn't be an internet, because it's not moderated, and I REALLY don't think a Christian should use it, unless they have a trusted Christian watching their habits to make sure they don't sin, or come in contact with sinful websites.

Here's another one: Christians shouldn't use camera phones because people take naked pictures with them.

One more: Christians shouldn't sleep in hotels, because God knows what goes on in those places!

Oh oh! I got one more! Christians shouldn't go to the mall, because you can buy naughty clothing there.

Christians shouldn't walk in gas stations because they sell beer there.

Sorry, but honestly, if someone is doing something you think is inappropriate on cam, call them on it. Flirting could be considered a sin, so it is inappropriate; however, if two people are simply joking with one another and not just throwing compliments about their looks back and forth, that's not inappropriate.

Matthew 5:28 - But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

As for the cams, they are optional. You can even hide them yourself if you want, just move them over to the side. I myself find them comical most of the time (people making funny faces and not saying anything in the Random room), and entertaining other times (people playing instruments and singing in the YouSing room).

The chat rooms are a safe haven for Christians to relax and let loose, and not have to worry about impressing other people all of the time. This place is the first place I have EVER gotten on cam to chat with people I didn't know offline. The kindness level is through the roof. Insults are virtually non-existent. Perversion is never a factor when anyone gets on cam.

Now, since this is an open website, anyone could stumble their way in here and ruin things fairly easily. It is up to us to assist the mods in their jobs; if you see anyone doing something you think they shouldn't be doing, report them. Tell the mods right away; don't try to take matters into your own hands, or you may find yourself receiving the same punishment the abusers receive.

Great Carrier.. I agree. Where do you draw the line, we are in the world but not of it. At the same time though, we still need to live here, we cant lock ourselves up in a little box and avoid reality.

Just one thing about your post. If you see someone doing anything inappropriate on cam or at all on this site, DON'T call them on it, just report it to a mod. That's why they are here ;)

You're equating the use of cams with secularism and sinfulness. I have to protest that, because it is preposterous. The cams are not for dating purposes; they are to allow us to have better communication. If you have a problem with how some people are behaving on the cam, then let's deal with that issue, but that is a quite different issue from the use of cams all together.

Okay I haven't read all the responses here, but let me just point out a few things.

If you really want text only, we do have a TextOnly room. (And if no one is using the TextOnly room, then that must mean that no one really wants text only!) :D

Or if you want voice only, and you don't want to see any video, then choose the Low Speed option when you launch the chat app. Then you will hear all the voice chat, and see avatars, but you won't see any video. ( You'll see each person's avatar when they speak, instead of their video.) And if you really don't want to hear the voice chat either, then also select the option "Mute all speaking".

So, the options (and the rooms) are there, for whatever you want.

And if you don't want to use a chat site that even allows video/voice/whatever, then just search Google for what you're looking for. I'm not being mean or anything -- not trying to drive anyone away -- I'm just saying that we have no plans to drop those features (as they do enable better, more "real" fellowship) so if you want a site that's different (in that respect), then go search for it.

God bless

Thank you RoboOP for using the latest technology here and also having an excellent staff to manage this site.
I a had an experience a few weeks ago where some of the chat members that were using cams did not have on appropriate tops. I forget the name of the Mod but they were very good in enforcing the rules and this issue was resolved quickly. I don't own a cam but I think I may get one so I can use it to join in with the fun. :)

I see nothing wrong with the cams or voice. The mods seem to be doing a great job at keeping the room clean and safe. I have visited many chatrooms and I have to say this is the best christian chat site I have ever seen. Myself I don't have a cam and have no intention on getting a cam. I have met some very great christians in this site. There are alot of young people here who are on fire for God and want to do a work for him. I think we need to lift them up more and put them down less.. yes there are times when the mods have to speak to them because they get out of hand, but for the most part they are pretty good about it and move on to another room.
Besides of you see or hear something that shouldn't be in chat you always have to option of reporting it to a mod, if one is not in the room there is a link at the bottom of the front page that says contact us where you can send off an email letting someone know what is going on.. I have used it before. Robo has been doing a great job here and has great people working with him to keep control .

I'm chiming in at the tail end of the convo but I say, "well put!". I'm a bit of a techie and I love the idea of cams and voice chat because its keeping up with technology, even though I probably would never engage in a voice or video chat - its just not my thing. The misuse of technology sucks, but monitoring and correcting inappropriate use of video and voice chats is something the mods and admins are tasked with. I take the necessary steps to avoid being bombarded with video and audio, but I'm happy CC provides the options for those who chose to partake of them.

Even though this is a Christian site its still situated in a worldly medium and will attract interested parties from all walks of life. Perhaps some of the perps will read, see or hear something on CC that will better prepare them for this Christian journey? Who knows but God?

I do agree Cams and Video can be evil depending on that persons intent, I think Though you cant limit or even to go as far as to Remove something because someone doesnt like it. Kinda like the kid who gets mad and says im taking my baseball and going home. And its not like there is not an Option As Robo Pointed out To keep cam and Video Off. Thank you RoboOp for Christian chat and wonderful Features you added to this Site May God Bless and Contine to bless you Brother :)
