I pour my heart out to God when praying and afterwards feel exhausted, sometimes even emotionally, mentally and physically ill. For example, when I pray and ask God to help me with my the emotional battle I am fighting from domestic violence I went through, my PTSD kicks in and is like reliving the moment all over again. Does anyone else feel like this, is this normal, am I praying wrong? What can I do about it?

As someone who has experienced trauma and traumatic stress, I know that there are certain triggers that cause people to relive the experience all over again, feeling the pain afresh, sometimes daily, for years. You're working through it slowly and surely, bit by bit, but praying about it brings it back to the front of your memory. Do you see that there is a general trend toward improvement in the bigger picture even though in the moment there may be rough patches?

In your prayers, sometimes we don't get something simply because we didn't ask, even if it's something like physically feeling better or forgetting a memory. Yes God can make you forget things if you ask Him and He can touch your soul change how you feel.

No guarantees, but it's worth asking. I hope that helps. Praying for you!

You are prayer right, read the Psalms. But, add to your prayer two things: Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and Ask the Holy Spirit & Jesus to chime in with you in prayer. This is based on Romans 8

As I remember, Jesus only offers 2 prayers that are wrong.
For instance, being in public and being loud about prayers is wrong. Praying in repetition, as though you can charm God into acting, or that God would be impressed by your ability to recite lengthy show prayers perfectly, is also wrong.
There may be others.
I am sorry you're going through this. That sounds horrifying, but I believe that since you're alive, God is gonna use this to make you a pure and powerful vessel for his will. Keep your hope and eyes on God, and know he's not out of earshot for his children.
I would ask, if maybe having your eyes open while you pray would help? I don't know if God requires us to close our eyes, perhaps just bowing in reverence would be enough? I'd ask God what he thinks about that, but I'm positive he'd probably not be insulted.
I have other questions but they get into things other than prayer. Prayer is good, I'll leave this comment there. Prayer is good, so I know God wants you to pray.

Romans 8:26
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

A good thing to remember also is , pray is part of our battle , and Satan can hinder our prayers , so when we feel like we cannot pray anymore , that is a time to pray harder...
Even a whisper to God to say " Lord , I cannot pray right now , I am struggling " He knows all things , and will even hear that whispered prayer...

Prayer is communicating to God also , and He knows when your heart s heavy , but remember , He s also the lifter of our heads...

We can go through dry seasons , but the rain will come...In those dry times of lack of prayer , just look at something in front of you and give thanks :giggle:

Ask the Lord for the gift of tongues. There's a reason it's called our prayer language. It sure helps me. I have put Psalms and other scripture to music which I often sing to the Lord.

Excuse me, your ignorance is showing. You might want to do something about that.
You could've just let it go, but no...smh
Why not start a thread on the cessation of the gifts or whatever your issue is?
Instead, you have to stomp my pearls into the mud.

Okay, on ignore you go!

He thumbs-downed my post. I was encouraging our struggling brother. We receive very real help from the Lord by faith. A thumbs-down can cause doubt. I just wish Sub had been a bit more thoughtful and done this somewhere else.
Read the bottom of the post. Oh well, this is life on the forum.

😳

I saw the thumbs down by SubH. on one of your posts. However, that means merely that they disliked your post. They said not a word otherwise.

That 👎 called you to say all this to them in return?

He was thumbs-downing tongues, a gift of the Holy Spirit. He's on ignore. I don't want to talk to cessationists. Period.

I apologize for calling you a name, bluesproverb, but I'm done with this toxic format, like most past members are.

😂😂
Calls others toxic while cussing, attacking people that did nothing wrong and refusing to talk to others of differing views. Check the plank in your own eye.

Hey Redcars I hope you are doing better and feeling an improvement in your life. Hopefully you have received helpful advice that will give you inner peace and bring you closer to God. I will say a little prayer for you in private and please know you are worth very much to God. I will pray for your strength and courage to deal with troubling times. God bless you.
