The other night, in the Bible Study room, a couple folks asked how a particular denomination believed. Apparently this agitated other folks who felt as though theology is being discussed more in the bible study room than the bible itself which, come to think of it, does happens a lot.

That is why I'm proposing a theology room which would free up the bible study room for daily devotions and the like. :)

I'm not sure I understand where the line is drawn that differentiates theology and The Word.

Basically, a theology room would be the place that people could go to ask questions about a different doctrines or denominations, etc. Also, it would serve as place where people could go to discuss their differences in opinion over a passage of scripture, rather than having a theological discussion interrupt what is being actually being studied which seems to occur on a regular basis.

This way the bible study room could be used more for learning scripture, daily devotions, discussing bible study tools and methods and edifying believers / discipling newer believers rather than the usual debate that goes on.

This - to me - stands to be a sort of double-edged sword: It would provide a terrific avenue for people to debate - or argue, rather - differences in dogma. On the other hand, it appears to leave the edification element in the Bible Discussion forum and do away with superfluous material unrelated to the Bible and more related to people's personal calculations.

Well mods? How about it?? *ques Jeopardy theme*

I vote NOT moderating that room. Just sayin'. We have enough theology-related drama without creating a whole room for it.

To a degree it could be used a means to contain much of the theological drama. That way when a debate breaks out in any of the other rooms you can tell'em to take it to the theology room.

However, I would hope that those who would frequent such a room would at least have some idea of what they are talking about. Those who are very well versed in theology should be able to set the pace and can keep things somewhat subdued. Any true student of theology not only understands why they believe what they believe but also understands why others believe as they do also thus they should be able to field a wide array of questions from a non-partison perspective.

The reason for such a room should not be for one to try to recruit people to his or her preferred doctrine, but rather to help people better understand what others believe in order to ease tensions.

Most people fear and reject what they don't understand. I personally believe that, once people become aware of the similarities in their faith, they won't be so focused on their differences thus they will become more tolerant and understanding of one another.
