There are plenty of non-Christians here who don't cause a scene. I understand what you're saying, but I still think you're giving trolls far too much credit. They often drops bombs and leave and laugh at the chaos they've created. Hurting people hurt people, I know that. But these trolls are banned for good reasons. Some have stayed on here for a very long time, so they've been given plenty of time to reform. But do they even try? No.
I understand what you're saying and you are probably right. I am a very optimistic person and have a tendency to search for the best in people. I know a lot of trolls will simply aim to cause chaos, but for the few that may want to grow, I feel an extra effort to suss through them is worth it. Its beautiful when you can find those people who are just a little bit harder to understand and have so much to offer when they see they are cared about. It may be rare, but like I said, even if one person is reached in that time, that's just as important if 100 people were reached with no effort.

Oh, there are plenty of trolls we have tried to give second chances to or have waited to see if they'll reform. It's good that you're an optimistic person. I used to be more optimistic. I was far too trusting of people. Now I've established healthier boundaries. I do wish I was a little more optimistic though. I'll get there.

I think sometimes people misjudge and label someone a troll who isn't trying to be a troll, like that one girl who was asking about how to suppress her urges around men and asking who here smokes cannibis. I can't remember if she was banned but I know some called her a troll and I think she was just asking for help. In any case she seems to have left the site..

Just checked... she's not banned.

I don't know. Many of us gave her plenty of chances, but it looked like she was creating threads on every kind of evil and controversy she could think of and then tried to justify many of them or just got upset with people who spoke God's truth in love (and therefore opposed her position).

But some are banned because everyone assumes "troll" when they're not trolls.
-- One was insane and we pushed him over the edge, so he relatailated.
-- One was schizophrenic, but proud his meds took him from visual and auditory hallucinations just down to auditory hallucinations. I thought he was a troll because he was hearing angels and demons. He never got the chance to stay after they got his meds better.
-- One took the first step in dealing with an addiction. He is an alcoholic, depressed, and looking for help. What did he get? Banned for grumpiness. Sometimes we have reasons for being grumpy.
-- One was banned because a troll from last summer (who did get banned for doing the same thing then) proved he was a perv. Remember our conversation about where fleas can go? You were grossed out that the flea was from a flea-bitten camel and I thought you were saying the flea bite went into nether-regions. That's the same kind of reason he was banned. Had no one known us, one of us could have been banned for that one, and no telling which of us that would have been. We were allowed to straighten that out. He wasn't.

So, yeah. being nice to strangers can hurt us. It DOES hurt us. God gave us two cheeks. There comes a time when the other cheek needs to be offered, because maybe, just maybe, the person won't smack it too.

It probably helps me to know no one is ever seeking God when he saves us despite the reality that we had no plans to seek. Offer the second cheek and 98% of the time, that too will be slapped. But we're out for the other 2%. Not the 98%. That really is the only thing we have to offer -- God did it for us. But isn't that a great thing to offer?

Very well said, Depleted. I think when it comes to this topic, CC is split down the middle in a lot of ways. It's good we got people talking about it, digging a little deeper and a lot of great points have been made. I hope at the very least, people will hesitate before pressing that button and give others the benefit of the doubt. They deserve it, because we all do.
