Cactus juice was developed several years ago by a man - Curtis Seebeck - a dedicated wood turner associated with a site called https://www.penturners.org/ His site is https://turntex.com/ .It's an excellent product and he continues to give advice to just about anyone that asks.

I had a look at the Hibband site and it is impressive. I always appreciate hand crafted things and the effort it takes to produce them

Concerning wood lathes. Small items can be turned on a larger lathe but large items cannot be turned on a small lathe.
You mean my Sears Craftsman Shop Smith can turn down something as fine as as a 0.5" dowel?

That Site sounds like a good place to learn.
I will share that with my buddy in case he wants to get back into some custom jobs again.

.
I'm using my dads lathe. 1950's Craftsman. I have some 1/2" dowels on hand and I think I'll have a go to see just how small a diameter
I can turn. Sounds like fun.

That's awesome! I didn't know that could turn pens.
Do you know if parts are still available for those vintage lathes? My Dad gave me his too. He said that it needed a part and he didn't have much use for it like he used to, so it was never repaired.

A weak spot on mine is the small locking plate that locks that tailstock with a bolt to the steel rail on which it slides. I overtightened it bending that lock plate. It took about 2 years of watching but I finally found a new (to me) tailstock on ebay. I had to be very careful that the embossed part numbers match exactly.

I also found help here http://vintagemachinery.org/ when working on a 1940s bandsaw.

This dowel is 9" long and started at 1/2" diameter. I got it down to 9/32" with a gouge and chisel. The center part started to flex so I stopped. Could probably get down to 1/4" with sandpaper dowel 001.JPG

My lathe has a 3 foot bed with 32" usable and I can turn wood up to 9" diameter. Jusy to let you know

Last year I made a large CNC Machine, my wife loaned it to her brother and he sold it to his neighbor who was moving. I told my wife that I wanted the Money or for him to buy me a new one of my choosing. Her family will not hold him responsible. I told him I wanted the money or buy me a new one. He came over to fight me, I am 660 and former golden gloves boxer. Also, at my age I don't fight fair. I used my black jack and a pipe, broke most of his bones. He was coming at me with a knife and Machete. He is lucky I did not use my guns since it was a clear case of selfdefense. He filed a complaint and told them that he came at me with those weapons. They Arrested him and he was convicted. He is in jail for ??? years. My wife still loans my tools to her family and they do not return them. She will not hold any of them responsible. When I speak to them that I want my tools back, it is like talking to a fence post. Their intelligence is very low.

You'd think that family would learn after that.
The nerve of someone borrowing a CNC machine, selling it and then projecting the blame on you is outrageous.
Why do you think your wife still loans out your tools? Is she just that trusting of them?

Sorry I didn't need to go there.
I've asked myself that about situations in my own family concerning those who trust harmful people. I don't know, but maybe it has something to do with 1 Timothy 2:14..?
That's the only thing I can think of when it comes to the beloved ladies in my own family. I guess we all have strengths and weaknesses. Sounds like you can take care of your weaker vessel, 👍 even if she wasn't so wise giving away your stuff.

Yes, she trusts them. Her Sister once borrowed my horses, I got them back 10 years latter when they were useless and only good for firewood.

Psalm 37:21
King James Version
21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

One of the verses they use for justifly not returning my tools is.

Luke 6:34-35

English Standard Version

34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

You've got to be kidding!
They quote scriptures to excuse their actions?

In all fairness to the ladies, I must admit that I've been trusting of the wrong people a time or two.

History: Most homes were part of a Spiritualist Community in the late 1800's. I learned that my home was the headquarters. We hold regular praise wors hip to keep unwanted demons away.
You do not have to continue to put up with this oppression. If it is your intent to have a praise/worship meeting to drive the demons away that in itself is an open door for them to come. They will come just to be driven out. They receive it as worship. It's kind of like the child that wants his parents attention and does bad things to get it. To such a lonely child, bad attention is better than no attention. I'm starting a conversation with you that has a link to some scans from a book by Judson Cornwall where he describes a situation very much like yours.

Also I suggest you pray and have an in depth look around all corners of your house. There could be a thing still there that serves as an open door for them to come against you. There are NT scriptures where (paraphrased) someone " fixed their eyes" or "fasten their eyes"
on someone. This happens rather often to me. It's as if the Lord takes hold of our physical eyes and directs them on something He wants us to see. It's almost a physical feeling when it happens. Praying for just how to deal with what He shows you will be needed.

Again you do not need to continue to put up with this.

We learned of the camp after we started the worship. And, we are told in Scripture, draw close to God and demons flee.

I didn't see this until now . That's remarkable! It's amazing how small you can turn it and with a chisel at that. That, a drill press and there's all kinds of possibilities.
That's encouraging to put that old machine back in working order.
Thanks!

The Lord often does that with me too.
It often happens when I start to ask where I set my (___________) . Whatever it was I misplaced or ask Him about, He will not force or anything like that. I don't feel a thing or even expect to see it.

The last thing was a pair of glasses I set down in an unusual place.
Before that, my big chest freezer broke down.
I wasn't sure but thought it might be a relay switch. I called the local repair shop and he said mine was the most expensive he'd ever seen. He was shocked and told me the parts were now either unavailable (solenoid) or being phased out (relay about $200). I confirmed with other parts stores online.
I had a talk with our Father. I said that it would be nice if I could get one at a better price because I just got hit with unexpected big bills. Next thing I get a motivation to go to the basement to an area I rarely go to a place I don't spend time and reached for an unmarked little package. Guess what I found? It was the exact part that I needed.
God is so good! The freezer works again and I didn't lose all that expensive meat.
