I spent 30 odd years tied up in the AoG (Australia ACC) cult until I asked God for the truth and was finally set free.

Where to begin. When i first "Gave my heart to the LORD" I was a sinner of the first degree, I won't go into detail, but when i first attended the local AoG it was in the music room of the local High school that was rented by an outreach of the AoG. My conversion was real as the word of GOD was preached back then and I realised that I was a sinner and needed salvation. It was not long after that when things started to change. A couple of the members who were cashed up went overseas to check out the Brownsville outpouring (or at least one of those places where there was a so called outpouring) and bought the devil back with them. Next thing was we were going for the experience rather than the Word of GOD. People started laughing uncontrollably and rolling around on the floor (myself included). I left after experiencing a complete lack of fulfillment and my whole life falling apart (loss of job, marriage failure etc.), I returned to the local church after about 7 years. To cut a long story short the church went from a small church of about 50 every Sunday to as it stands today 4 adults attending on a Sunday sometimes. When the so called pastor actually opens the door.

Just to clarify, by AoG do you mean Assemblies of God denomination? I'm assuming the ACC is the Australian version of the Assemblies of God?

How did God set you free from it?
What type of church are you currently attending?

GOD set me free by giving me the wisdom to discern His Word. I finally went down on my knees and asked the Lord for the truth. I learnt that the only Word ever spoken that can create life is the Word of GOD and that in the Bible we have the manual for life, nothing else needed. Unfortunately I live in an area where there is no longer any Church that the Word of God is preached so I rely on the internet for fellowship and the preaching of God's Word. I am careful now to test every word with what the Bible says, I* might not always be right but am certainly not following the great lie that is that we are little gods that is the great lie that deceives in the last days.

I have to say that I attended an Assemblies of God church and found it to be very sound doctrinally. :) I daresay the 'cult' and the 'issue' isn't with AoG, but rather with the pastor you had at the time. We recently had a pastoral change and I must say that it did not sit well with me and so I have chosen to attend a different church, but I do not believe AoG is a bad thing. Just my thoughts. It is rather difficult to find a church that preaches truth without shame and that calls its members to repentance on a regular basis. Though there is a church that I really enjoy here and that I consider myself to be a member of, I tend to choose to stay home and watch a sermon online, rather than assemble. This will change one day, I know, but I, too, find that I weary of the compromises and madness that passes as Christianity nowadays. :)

Not at ALL the experience I have had with the American Assemblies of God church I attended in Miami some years ago.

They believed and preached the gospel, and their services were orderly - no one rolling on the floor or laughing uncontrollably. The church was especially helpful to those who suffered through Hurricane Andrew even tho a part of the church was damaged and several of the members lost their homes or part of them.

I'm 58 years old and have never heard the AOG referred to as a cult by anyone, or by any other denominations.

I wonder if you were to attend that church today if that would still be the case? I mean Todd Bentley who was, and as far as I know still is. lauded by the aog. I have heard the the aog churches in Europe still hold to the truth but unfortunately that is all. Certainly not in Australia and going by what I see on the internet and so called Christian Television not in the USA either.

Just as a footnote the aog in Australia did kick the pastor of my local church out but only after the money stopped.

The World Assemblies of God Fellowship, is a group of over 140 autonomous but loosely associated national groupings of churches which together form the world's largest Pentecostal denomination with over 300,000 ministers and outstations in over 212 countries and territories serving approximately 66.4 million adherents worldwide. It is the sixth largest international Christian group of denominations.

I daresay it is a mix of both good, bad, and everything in between... lol.

Sorry,I replied to a another person instead of you.I hope that post was deleted.
Yes, i am afraid there are people in cult among them.Among many denominations. But you stay on God.And i encourage you to stay more close to God and than look at the strength of the church you are in.True Church(the Bride of Jesus) is not man-made.Always truly follow him and struggle to do so.
And be not hesitant to repent or correct mistakes when God leads you to His Revelation.I pray that God bless the fellowship you attend and edify you too.
God Bless.

You do have a bone to pick, that much is obvious.

The doctrinal position of the Assemblies of God is both classical Pentecostal and evangelical. They are Trinitarian and hold the Bible as divinely inspired and the infallible authoritative rule of faith and conduct; they practice baptism by immersion; communion; place a strong emphasis on the fulfillment of the Great Commission; believes all Christians are entitled to and should seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit with tongues (note the AG teaches that this experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of salvation); believes in spiritual gifting; and has a statement of faith which outlines their basic beliefs though each national AG denomination formulates its own doctrinal statements.

What exactly about the AG is so offensive to you that you have resorted to calling them a cult as in a false religious system?

I attend and am a member of First Assembly of God in my hometown. I am very sorry that your AoG church did not adhere to the infallible Word of God, but it seems to me that you're judging the entire AoG worldwide based on your experience. We study the Word and everything our pastor teaches lines up with the Word. Please do not attribute the things of God to be apostate.

There's nothing wrong with Assemblies of God doctrine. Maybe, there's something wrong with you. Ask God to guide you. Study His Word daily, seek Him.

Ive been in AOG ever since i got saved and i hve great bonding with the members and especially the pastor. We shared all the love and the goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You are wrong. There is.Its not easy to see.I belong to a Church where Ministry people lead consecrated lives. Its not catholic. The Fellowship i was born in was started by a young man many decades back by listening to direct Voice of Jesus. It's a Holy Spirit filled Apostolic calling, they lead.Even in that, there are many faults. But that doesn't mean people who genuinely seek God there will be punished,be it believers or people in the consecrated ministry.
If you didn't find anything wrong,it's ok.But if you observe and question more you will realize the problems inside there(aog) too.If people have been called out, then you need to verify what they say with what you see. That doesn't mean that you should come out.You need to Pray to God and verify things. He will bring you out if there is a need.Even with all my problems,i do attend the fellowship i was born in.I sometimes feel that its going to soon become the future version of something like catholic.Everything there is becoming very formal nowadays. When they say something and do,i check it with Holy Scripture. So i don't have to fall more than i am already struggling.
If i see something wrong i walk away.If God gives me a burden i speak about it and against it.If not i silently walk away and give others useful directions. So far i find myself wrong in many things than them.
One thing i will tell you,you have to keenly observe whether there are literal occult members in aog. There is no problem in verifying everything with God.He is not man.And there all anxieties stop.
God Bless:)

My freedom began when the minister came to my house because my cult worshipping mother called him to condemn my music and tell me how God was going to take my salvation because I listened to such monsters as Buddy Holly and other tame types from generations gone by. I began to question what I was told and it was my brightest moment. I then began to question all that they had taught me, and when I finally turned my back on them and spent the next several years getting over the mentality they had planted it gave me my freedom. I just wish I had done it sooner.
