Rev 22v7: “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."
Rev 22v12: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.”
Rev 22v20: “He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
In the last chapter of the Bible (Rev 22) the Lord Jesus says the following words, “behold/surely, I am coming quickly” 3 times. If the Lord says something even once, it is certainly most worthy of note, however, He repeated these words THREE times in the space of just 14 verses, so they are surely of the UTMOST importance and their message should be written into our hearts and minds and inspire us to seek and pray for their speedy fulfillment!
In promising to come quickly to fulfil these prophecies, this could be looked upon in the light of 2Peter 3v7-9, God's experience of time is not the same as ours, or it could mean that when the prophecies in this book (of Revelation) come to pass, then the coming of the Lord will be near. Matt 24v33. It is the second view that really shines forth in this day and age and should inspire and cause us to watch out for the cardinal signs that He has given us in His Word (in reply to the disciples' question, Matt 24v3) to look out for, especially what He says in the Matt 24v15:
“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)”
This Scripture reference to “the abomination of desolation” directs us to Dan 9v27, which is the fulfillment of Daniel’s 70[SUP]th[/SUP] prophetic week (i.e., the bringing to pass of the last 7 years of this age):
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
“The abomination of desolation” is a reference to when Antichrist breaks the covenant (peace treaty) with the “many” (including Israel) and sets up his image in the Temple in Jerusalem, claiming that he is God. It is at this time that the Great Tribulation begins (which lasts for a period of three and a half years), immediately after which Christ comes in great power and glory to destroy the wicked and take His people home. Isaiah 42v13-17, 63v1-6, Zech 14v4 (with Acts 1v11), Matt 24v29-31, 1Cor 15v50-56 (with Isaiah 25v6-9), 1Thess 4v13-18, 2Thess 2v1-12, 2Peter 3v10-12, Rev 6v12-17, 7v9,10,14, 11v15-18, Rev chapter 13 (all), Rev chapter 19 (all).
The beginning of the last seven years of this Age begins when:
“…he (Antichrist) shall confirm the covenant (peace treaty) with many for one week (7 years)…”
So, the initial cardinal sign to watch out for is when a powerful dictatorial world leader (who “appears” to be a champion of peace, Dan 8v25, 11v21, Rev 6v1,2) makes a peace treaty with many parties (in the Middle East, including Israel), the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus is then 7 years later. We won’t know the day or hour of His Coming, but we will certainly know the week due to Daniel’s wonderful 70[SUP]th[/SUP] week prophecy and accompanying signs. Matt 24v33, 1Thess 5v4,5
So let us pay heed to our Lord’s warning in Mark 13v33 and Luke 21v34:
“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is…And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
Let us live in such a way that the prayer of John is ever upon our lips, and in our hearts, “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” John 15v9, 17v23, 1John 3v1-3
