"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial."

Other translations are worded differently..but just what is it that is permissible? Any kind of sin?
I see it like this, "everything is permissible" GOD wont stop you from going out to do what ever you want, that's free will, "BUT not everything is beneficial", your sin catches up to you, it keeps you from GOD, it doesn't benefit your soul any.

Sins are things that get us into trouble or make us feel bad. It only makes sense for us to resist the temptation to sin.

1Corinthians 10:23-31 is speaking of things that can cause stumbling to others.

Paul saying everything being permissible is not to mean that it is ok to break laws, Gods or mans. By reading the full account, what I believe he is saying that some things are a matter of conscience and break neither God’s or man’s law.

Paul mentioned a key Bible principle that needs to be taken into account when making decisions on personal matters. People’s consciences. Some have stronger consciences than others. For example many feel the Bible condemns drunkenness, not moderate alcohol consumption. (What some feel is modest in dress others may feel is too provocative etc.. things within reason) If the person you are with condemns the drinking of alcoholic beverages although we do not, then we should consider their conscience and not drink around them. Verse 24 of 1 Corinthians chapter 10 says we should seek the good of others.

We read in 1 Corinthians 23-31 that some individual’s conscience allowed them to eat meat from the marketplace that could or could not be from a sacrifice and others did not.

Verse 31 sums up the chapter by saying: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
