I just wanted to share something that has been on my heart for awhile...
I was born again just under a year ago and I have come a long way from the person I used to be. I believe it has alot to do with the guidance I received. A new christian needs alot of guidance when first saved, in my experience, I was like a baby in a whole new world. The thing is, I was saved at age 26 and haven't ever known much about God. I simply got a hold of some word, gave prayer a shot and felt the Holy Spirit move. For a person who was saved at a young age, or grew up in a christian home, it seems that it may be a somewhat easy journey to embark upon, but I come from a colorful background.
I was able to find a church I felt comfortable in through a friend but it only took two weeks until the Lord sent me away on my first adventure. I ended up traveling to another part of the country for work and there I worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. So finding another church wasn't happening. Even after that job was done I continued to travel, never really settleing down somewhere long enough to become a part of a body. So there I was, a brand new child of this amazing God and having a lack of spiritual guidance. I had my bible but I could barely comprehend some of it. I had LOTS and LOTS of questions! So this is what I wanted to share, for the new believer that may be in a similar situation, I have some tips in case you find yourself with a lack of guidance. There are a few teachers out there that offer some amazing messages.
1) Pastor Duane Sheriff, Victory Life Church, Durrant OK
I came acroos this guys tape by the grace of God and loved it. He's got a real down to earth humor and backs everything up with biblical references. YOU WONT BE BORED! I promise. He's got hundreds of different teachings that you can download or they will send you them for free. http://www.dsheriff.org/
2) Chuck Smith, founder of Calvary Chapel
Chuck Smith has a more intellectual feel to his teachings and he goes through the bible chapter by chapter. If you don't understand something in your bible, he's got a message on it. http://www.twft.com/?page=c2000
3) And last but not least, I found such power from getting some worship music on my I Pod and singing along on my way to work. Worship through music is an excellent way to grow in the Lord and it is not to be overlooked. Give it a shot and see what it does to your day.
Well, I hope you were blessed.----Derek
