What is there to fear? It is extremely rare.

So how do they remedy the situation? A c section to deliver a stone? I guess stranger things have happened!

Who knows what the medical risks entail? May require extensive surgery but in an 80+ year old may not be advisable. I guess it depends on what she presented with that led to the diagnosis.

Unless she is in severe pain I wouldn't think they will bother removing it.

Based on my very limited medical knowledge, I suspect it would only be dealt with if it became a medical neccesity. Maybe someone with more medical knowledge could provide an answer based on medical science, and not some silly opinion from someone like me who admits he is not really knowledgable on these typs of things.

Good question ? Wonder how they did take care of that ? Wow.
Actually made me wonder how many other women died never knowing
they had a calcified fetus. That was a big one too. ~

Forgive me this is too funny ~ Makes me laugh also. ~
Sorry folks I have a sick sense of humor - I used to like the Far Side cartoon if that tells you anything.. But truly I am sorry for the woman having to go through any pain or trouble now. I will say a prayer for her. Maybe that will make amends.

I went back to read the story again. It did state she came in to Dr.
for pelvic pain. So then when they did the x-ray they discovered the
4 lb. Stone Baby. I agree unless the pain is so intense, one would
think she would not want to have surgery since she is 83 yrs. old.
Next question? When she dies, and they do autopsy, will they take
the 'Stone Baby' out of her to use for study ? I would love to have
a follow up on this story. I have a friend in Colo. and I think I will
send her the link and ask her to keep eye out for news on this topic.

I am so glad to meet you. I have a sick sense of humor also. I actually
dislike myself sometimes... after the fact. For example, and it is true and
not nice. ( hey we could start a new thread called "My sick sense of humor moment." )
Anyway here was my latest, and I feel bad for it.

My brother lost his nose to cancer after many surgeries and treatments.
He had to have prosthesis made. Without using my brain.... I said, oh so now
you will have to take your teeth out at night and take your nose off, too.
Oh, good grief, how immature, inconsiderate was that comment ? I felt so
bad later when it hit me that had to hurt him. So, guess what ? I am not a
nice person am I ? I confess that as nasty and sorry for my "moment."
Lord forgive me.

I don't have anything to really add to my earlier comment but I am a Nurse and I can base my opinion on my own experiences. I would suggest that unless is is now doing her harm (which it isn't) or causing severe pain (that cannot be medically managed) at her age the risks could very much outweigh the benefits of surgery and it would be seen as a last option.

I too would be interested in seeing how this plays out!

I sent the article to a friend in Denver, and hoping she checks into it for us.
Poor lady, how miserable she must have been all these 40 years. We really
need to pray she will be well.

On the lighter side, we could say " who said you can't take it with you?"
I meant to google that "Stone Baby" to get more info. Fascinating isn't it?
If it had not been CBS news, I would have thought it a hoax. Think I will
google it and see what comes up. ~

I googled 'Stone Baby' and found a new story of another lady from
another country with same issue. This gives more detail and photos.
Very interesting ~ Look up in Christian-news-forum... 46 yr. old Stone Baby...
