"that I may know the fellowship of his sufferings"

no sweeter knowledge. . .
it seems so counterintuitive, right? :)

and yet, i have found this to be so.
learning so much more during the bitter times than sweet.
learning how trustworthy and faithful He is!
how full of mercy and truth, and how he'll lovingly give me a swift kick when i need it.

(apologies, p_r, for the derail :o)
. . .and the healing.

Now please do not think I am trying to be "holier than" or say that "I know more" because those are way further from the truth than you know. I am just so tired of the argumentative forums on here. These type of forums where we actually study God's Word get "lost in the shuffle" because "we know so much". We know so much? Really? How about this... John 21:25 "And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen." (NKJV). God only revealed about Himself to us what we could accomidate in our "little" minds.

To begin a study on "knowing God" you must first begin with who God is. This would be looking at the attributes of God. If we do not understand certain attributes then we can never grow close to God because we don't understand who God is. If We don't know that God is Omnipotent then how can we trust God? If we don't know God is Omnipresent then how do we know God us with us. Knowing God is intimately is "knowing God intimately". We as Christians have an intimate relationship with God so we should desire to be intimate with Him. It's called Sanctification. The work of the Holy Spirit in our lives drawing us closer to Him.

Part of "knowing God" is how we think upon God. How do we contemplate God?

Contemplate; "View or reflect upon attentively" (Websters Dictionary)

When we contemplate God how do we do this? What do we think about? Do we think about God as a person or just a "being"?

We are rightly to think upon God according to His attributes which He has revealed to us in His Word. (Deut 29:29)

God is incomprehensible! The incomprehensibility of the divine nature is no reason why we should stop devout study and prayerful striving to apprehend what He has so graciously revealed of Himself in His Word. The incomprehensibility of the divine nature should teach us humility, caution and reverence.

To "know God" is to bring us into an area of pure worship through prayer and study of His Word. If we go through a day without once praising God then we should really look at our relationship with God. I have had days where not a darn thing has gone right but I do not go through a day without thanking Him for all He has done for me and given too me. With knowing God comes true peace from God.

Knowing God is NOT head knowledge but heart knowledge.

Yes! So difficult to deny oneself when we have spent an entire lifetime only having to submit to ourselves - isn't it? We need willpower - His will power :)[/QUOTE

amen MPW,

the Spiritual battles go on....
we can only get stronger and over-come in this war if Jesus Christ is our Captain.

the world is literally at war with our Father - this is one reason Jesus says,
'you are either with Me or against Me'.

it is better to be 'hot or cold' than a fence straddler - it truly is a
straight and narrow walk, the warnings abound for us to
draw close to our Maker in thought, deed, and prayer.
if we are becoming more and more like Him, we know Him
better and better, this is certainly one of our primary goals
in our walk, to be like Him -
all of the relationships that bind us to our Saviour, are so
numerous and wonderful -
He indeed desires for us to be closer and closer to Him and
for us to understand better and better, all the ties that bind,
whether they be good or whether they be evil.
