If so, then what happens if a Christian sins and suddenly dies (before asking for forgiveness)? Is that one sin outside of Christ's atonement? If so, that's a scary proposition indeed.

2 Peter 2:9
The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

This is why Jesus tells us not to wait, to be ready in season and out of season for we know not the time and hour.
He is not just referring to when He comes again, but that we do not know when our death in the flesh will come. A person can be healthy as can be and doing right, and some one does an evil act that takes their life or they die of a heart attack or something along that line. Even if they were a good person, but never repented of sins or believing in Jesus they will still be cast out to fiery indignation.

We are also sent the Holy Spirit into our lives to help guide us in the proper direction. If you refuse that guidance than you are denying the Holy Spirit.

Our Lord gives us His directions to follow, and gives us the Holy Spirit to help us. We must accept and live by His guidance, and stay obedience to Him.

The other thing people must remember is that some sins are harder to stop for people than other sins are.
So when some one repents, what may take one person a day to stop doing their sin another may take days or months to completely stop doing it. So if they repented and you see them still doing that sin, it will not lead to spiritual death because they are trying to stop, praying for forgiveness of it, and turning their life to the Lord.

I guess there's a transcription error in the Bible, where Christ said, "It is finished." I guess the translation into English should have said, "It's only partially finished."

Sorry to say that the error is in you, as it is written about children like you;

"Ever learning but never come into the knowledge of the truth."

LORD JESUS CHRIST said;

"It is finished."

This HE justifies that HE have finished the Law and the Prophets of the Old Covenant, that is, HE have fulfilled all it's requirements. for all of us who have been born again, saved/redeemed us from sin's power and death's sting. So now as a new creation of GOD for CHRIST, we are called to run forward and finish the New Covenant of spirit and life, by fulfilling all it's requirements, then shall we have excess to GOD's place of rest.

Three times this words are reminded to believers, in the beginning of the book of Hebrews, chapter 3;

"Today if you hear HIS voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."

Want to summarize that into coherence and relevance to what was being discussed?

God gives us power to say no to sin....if we don't put the lust of the flesh to death ....the flesh will consume you and bring spiritual death....
