My dad is an electrician, and he usually comes home with a bunch of stories, depending on how interesting his clients were. There was a recent one he told me this week, however, and since I know there are Christians out there, and very possibly on this site, who have bought over the internet, any "religious" items like "Authentic Anointing Oil" or even Holy Water that supposedly came from some sacred place the Bible mentioned, I figured I should share this story as a word of caution.

One of the women he worked for this week is a seller on Ebay, and my dad asked her what exactly she sold. She told him just religious items that people want for different reasons, and added with a smile that it's a great way to make money. He later spotted a bottle next to the sink that had been labeled saying it was Holy Water from the Jordan River. No sooner had he spotted it when she walked in, filled it up with tap water in the sink, then proceeded to package it and put a packing label on it to ship it out.

She was charging $15 a bottle...

A lot of you probably already know the old saying, "Don't believe everything you read," but I know the pastors at my old church used to buy into those scams all the time and wasted way too much of the Church's money on them. So, just a friendly word of warning.

Plus, I would expect a bit more than a jar of water from the Jordan river for $15.

Yeah people really buy this stuff and it's kinda sad lol. One of my former pastors, who was an older man so not very big into computers, gave my mom a $50 one day (she's the church secretary) and asked her to use it to purchase a case of "Rose of Sharon Anointing Oil." My mom ended up sneaking the $50 into his coat pocket and instead bought a bottle of olive oil and some rose scented perfume and poured little vials of oil with a dash of perfume and gave that to him instead. He never knew the difference and to this day I don't think she ever came clean lol. Saved him a lot of money at least.
