A Daily Walk With Jesus

What It Means and What He Actually Said to Do

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." — Luke 9:23

A daily walk with Jesus is not a religious ritual. It is not a set of performances for other people to see. According to Jesus himself, it is a living, breathing, daily commitment, something practiced in the morning, tested by noon, and refined by evening. It touches how we pray, how we love, how we repent, and how we carry ourselves when no one is watching.

This article draws entirely from Jesus' own recorded words to explore what that walk truly looks like — and what it practically demands of us each day.

Begin With Repentance — Every Day

The very first public word Jesus spoke was "Repent" (Matthew 4:17). Not once, at conversion, and never again. Repentance was the door he opened at the beginning of his ministry, and it remains the door we walk through each morning.

To repent is not merely to feel bad about what we have done. It is a turning — a change of mind and direction. Jesus made this concrete in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–24). The son "came to himself" — he recognized the truth of his situation, he rose, and he returned to the father. Three movements: awareness, decision, action. That is daily repentance.

What to do: Each morning, or at the close of each day, sit quietly before God. Ask: Where did I fall short? Where did pride, impatience, dishonesty, or indifference steer me away from love? Name it plainly. Do not dress it up. Jesus warned against those who clean the outside of the cup while the inside remains full of greed and self-indulgence (Matthew 23:25–26). True repentance begins on the inside.

Then, and this is the grace at the center of it, believe that the Father runs to meet you, as he did for the prodigal. You do not earn your way back. You simply return.

Keep the Commandments, Not as Burden, but as Love

When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus gave a two-part answer that contained everything:

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."(Matthew 22:37–40)

This is not a reduction of the commandments. It is their root. Every other instruction, do not murder, do not lie, do not commit adultery, care for the poor, flows from the soil of love. Jesus did not abolish the law; he deepened it. He moved it from the courthouse into the heart.

He went further still in John 13:34: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." The standard is not "love others as they deserve" it is as I have loved you.Lavishly. Sacrificially. Without condition.

What to do: Practically, keeping the commandments means examining each relationship. The person you find difficult, are you carrying resentment? Jesus taught that if you remember that your brother has something against you, you should go and be reconciled with your brother. Reconciliation precedes worship. That is how seriously he takes love as a daily discipline.

Ask yourself at the start of each week: Is there someone I owe an apology to? Is there someone I have been avoiding? Is there a small cruelty I have been allowing, a cutting remark, a cold shoulder, that love would not permit?

Pray to the Father, Simply, Daily, Honestly

Jesus prayed. Constantly. Before sunrise, alone on mountainsides, in the middle of crowds, in the shadow of death. And when his disciples asked him to teach them how, he gave them the pattern we call the Lord's Prayer. Not a formula to recite, but a shape to fill with living words.

"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." (Matthew 6:9–13)

Look at the structure. It begins with God, his name, his kingdom, his will. Only after aligning ourselves with him do we bring our needs: bread, forgiveness, guidance, protection. This is not passive. It is the daily act of reorienting our lives around what is true and eternal, rather than what is urgent and temporary.

Jesus also warned against performing prayer for an audience: "When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret." (Matthew 6:6) And against the illusion that longer prayers carry more weight: "Do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words."(Matthew 6:7)

What to do: Set a time to pray that is not interrupted by your phone or your agenda. Even ten minutes of genuine, honest conversation with God, confessing, thanking, asking, listening, is worth more than an hour of distracted religious performance. Come as you are. Speak plainly. Ask for your daily bread, not just physical provision, but wisdom, courage, and the strength to love well today.

Love God With Everything You Have

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37)

Three words carry enormous weight here: all your heart, all your soul, all your mind. Emotion. Spirit. Intellect. Jesus is not asking for compartmentalized affection, where God gets Sunday morning and the rest of your life proceeds on its own terms. He is describing a love that saturates everything your decisions, your money, your time, your ambitions.

He illustrated the cost of this vividly: "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." (Matthew 6:24) The choice is not between good and evil. It is between two loves competing for the center of your life.

What to do: Regularly ask yourself: What am I actually organized around? What drives my decisions — security, approval, comfort, control — or trust in God and love for him? You don't need to answer this perfectly. You need to answer it honestly. And then, in small daily acts of obedience — choosing integrity when it costs you, choosing generosity when it pinches, choosing stillness when anxiety pulls — you exercise that love like a muscle, and it grows.

Let Your Light Shine, Live It Out Loud

Jesus did not only speak truth. He lived it before people's eyes. He touched the untouchable, ate with the despised, stood with the accused, wept with the grieving. His words were never more than one step ahead of his hands. And he called his followers to the same:

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:14–16)

Notice: the light is not loud preaching or moral condescension. It is good works — acts of visible, ordinary, costly love. Your neighbor sees how you treat your family. Your coworker sees whether your word holds under pressure. Your children see whether what you say on Sunday changes how you act on Monday.

What to do: Each day, look for one concrete way to be the presence of Jesus for someone near you. Not dramatically. Quietly. A meal brought to someone struggling. A word of genuine encouragement. Standing up for someone who cannot stand up for themselves. Forgiving someone who does not deserve it. These small acts, multiplied across a life, become a light no darkness can extinguish.

The Walk Is the Way

Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6) He did not point to a destination and say, "Get there on your own." He said: Follow me. Walk with me. Learn from me. The daily walk is not a preparation for something else. It is, itself, the life he is calling us to.

Repent. Keep his commandments. Pray to the Father. Love God wholly. Love one another sacrificially. Show it by what you do day by day.

That is enough. And that is the walk.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." — Matthew 11:28–29

A Daily Walk With Jesus What It Means and What He Actually Said to Do

This is not an easy walk Folks ------it is walking the Narrow Path daily ----it means daily the crucifying of one's flesh, denying worldly desires, and enduring spiritual battles which was not mentioned on OP-

The enemy is lurking every minute of every day to steal your Identity in Christ through wavering your Faith causing you to doubt your Identity -----

True Followers of Christ are in a Spiritual Battle that they have to fight every day ---Satan is a master of Deception and attacks your thought life ------You have to know your Enemy and how he works and keep your mind gate closed to allow him no entry --and that in itself is very difficult to achieve ----

While it is a difficult walk --it is worth the effort -----
but you have to want to mature in this walk and have your Faith grounded and Rooted in Christ ----so when the storms come you can stand secure and upright to have the victory -----

You need to mature your Faith and remain steadfast in God's word every day so you can Mature your walk and keep your Path Straight on this narrow Path -----and Rely on and Obey the Direction of the Holy Spirit to

AI

Key aspects of this difficult walk include:

Daily Sacrifice and Surrender: Following Christ is not a one-time event but a daily decision, requiring a total and daily surrender of one's will. This includes sacrificing personal desires for obedience, which can feel painful.

The Narrow Way: Jesus described the path to life as narrow and difficult, a contrast to the broad path of destruction that many follow.

Internal and External Battles: Believers face constant struggles, including temptation and a conflict between the spirit and the flesh. This can result in facing opposition from the world and enduring trials.

The Need for Perseverance: The journey is often compared to a "spiritual workout," where trials are used by God to refine character and strengthen faith, rather than to cause suffering.

Why the Walk is Challenging but Supported
Although the path is hard, it is not meant to be traveled alone.

The Holy Spirit is provided as a comforter and guide to help believers, making the impossible, possible. The difficulty often stems from trying to walk in one's own strength, rather than relying on the strength of God.

In summary, it is a "difficult walk—difficult in that it requires constant, often painful, change and surrender.
I say -----As we Mature and get our Faith Grounded and Rooted in Christ the walk gets easier as we exchange our Yoke for Christ/s Yoke and turn our Burdens over to Him -----

Who;s Yoke are we carrying ---our own or His -----????????

is is possible to think there are no sinners in the church no Christians that sin? we have examples that they do and were condemned for their sins legally, child abuse, defrauding, church members...

yes something major changed after Jesus death on the cross, it is Major and Wonderful and Graceful;

When Jesus gave His life, the veil in the temple was torn. This was a powerful sign from God.

Matthew 27:50–51 (NKJV)
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.”

That veil stood as a barrier. It showed that man could not freely come into the presence of God because of sin. Only the high priest could go behind it, and only at a set time, with blood. It was a reminder that the way was not yet open.

But the prophets had already spoken of a time when God would deal with sin in a deeper way, not just through outward offerings.

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Also, God showed that He desired mercy and a true heart more than sacrifices alone.

Hosea 6:6 (NKJV)
“For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.”

Jesus Himself spoke of access to the Father coming through Him.

John 14:6 (NKJV)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

So when the veil was torn, it showed that what stood as a barrier was being removed. The system that pointed forward to the coming sacrifice had reached its purpose. The One to whom it all pointed had come and given His life.

Even before this moment, Jesus had already spoken of a time when worship would no longer be tied to one place.

John 4:21, 23 (NKJV)
“Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father… But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth…”

And God had promised through the prophets that His work would go deeper than outward forms.

Jeremiah 31:33 (NKJV)
“I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts…”

So the torn veil is a sign that the separation is being addressed by God Himself. The focus moves from outward ritual alone to a living relationship with Him. The way is opened through Christ, and worship is no longer about a place, but about truth in the heart.

The sacrifice system reaches its fulfillment in Christ and no longer points forward.
The way to approach God is opened through Christ instead of through temple rituals.
The promise of a new covenant begins, with God’s law written in the heart.
The Spirit of God is given more fully to guide and dwell with His people.
The message of salvation is sent to all nations, not only one people.
The understanding of sin is deepened to the level of the heart, not just outward acts.
Righteousness is revealed as doing the will of God from the heart, not only outward form.
The hope of resurrection and eternal life is made clear through Christ.
Judgment is entrusted to the Son, who will judge according to truth.
The Kingdom of God begins to be revealed within people, not only as a future hope.
Worship is no longer tied to one place, but is in spirit and truth wherever one is.

Yet the call remains the same. God still seeks those who will turn to Him, know Him, and walk in His ways.

Blessings

it is Ok and fine to post the scripture to tells us God says we need to do to walk with Him Daily -----

But reading the words and actually putting what the Scriptures say into practice are 2 different things ----

It is all up to us to put the Faith of Christ inbirthed in us into action and believe me it takes very hard work and much daily Practice---Practice and more Practice to accomplish what God says we need to do to walk daily with Him -----

We need to understand that when we are Born Again our Stance is in Christ but our State is not fully evolved yet -----we have to Spiritually grow in our Carnal State -----to line up with our Stance which is fully in Christ -----we have put off the Old and are now in the New -----but our Carnal minds are still subject to living in this world and that mind has to be changed to catch up with our Stance------

We should not allow our State --(Carnal MIND )to change our Stance ------and it can if you don't renew our minds ----

Our Stance will change our State if we obey the word and put our inbirthed Faith into right action ---------

Romans 12:2

2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be ]transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].

I say ------We have been living with a mindset of this world since our worldly Birth ------and believe me it is takes hard work to change that worldly mine set to God's mine set -----it is not easily done as we still live in this world and have to function in this world with Satan on our tail ----and all the worldly pressures of this life -----

You win or loose the Battle in your mind -----Your State (Mind Set )can change your Stance -----

1776167338535.png

But if your Grounded and Rooted in your Stance ----your State will also be Grounded and Rooted in Victory ---allowing your Spirit and Mind to be in sync ------no wavering in either -----

Not many will achieve this ---it takes hard daily consistent work ---stamina and perseverance ----to win the Mind set battle ----Worldly pressures -----worldly storms of live and our Enemy lurks all around us every day -----

Christ's Faith inbirthed in us has to be greatly and deeply Grounded and Rooted in the Vine at all times ------a lot of hard word and practice ---being in God's word Daily ----which grows strong Faith ---gives us the Wisdom and Knowledge to stay the course to victory -------

Not an easy walk ---Folks ----
