We have teen and bible discussion rooms but nothing set aside for debating theological or scientific issues. I feel that adding such subforum would lend a better environment for all as debating certain issues could be sent there rather than disrupting other parts of the forum. Thanks :)
 
I think debates could very well lead to strife's, i personally don't think this is a good idea.

I would say that badly organized debates with little to no rules is what leads to strife. I would contend that it would be better to create an organized room where debate is acceptable and governed as opposed to many rooms with unorganized debates. :)
 
I truly don't see us putting up a room specifically for this purpose. We deal with enough drama caused by heated discussions that turn into heated arguments already without creating a room for it.

Debates and arguments are generally disdained - though many participate in them (often inadvertently). If people could keep it to a dialogue - a courteous exchange - rather than a "debate" or an argument/feud, it wouldn't be such a bad idea for edification. Apologetics is essential IMO, but unfortunately, "you can't cut off a man's nose and then hand him a rose to smell", which is what is bound to be attempted in a debates forum.

I have heard this from many people. My experience with the word debate is generally in an academic setting (for example, my school has an organized debate team) where debates are the courteous exchange you describe. But I do agree that perhaps it could turn ugly :)
