It was intentional, but it went wrong. I did not intend to make it look like he said "never happen."

That auto split quote thing is quirky as all get out.

when quoting another post - if you highlight/select a specific part of the quote and press the Enter/Return key
Hitting ENTER doesn't work for me...
BUT when I highlight I get a little REPLY button that pops up and that works great for me.

Although, I'm not sure what you mean by

it will neatly separate the quote at that point, replacing the highlighted/selected part?
What replaces the highlighted/selected part?

Perhaps, it may be better to do all of your "splitting" before starting to write your reply...?

I split up your post with 'select-enter' between each line of it:

That feature is very useful, too - and can be used to "stack" multiple generated quotes.

AH-HA! Think I've figured it out:

So, I quote Gary like so:
Screenshot 2026-07-02 121723.png And then I get:

when quoting another post - if you highlight/select a specific part of the quote and press the Enter/Return key
( Um, but I'm working on my laptop and if I highlight, then hit enter, it deletes the highlighted part BUT...)

I can quote with the highlighted/reply like so:

if you highlight/select a specific part of the quote
then I place my cursor between 2 words like so:
Screenshot 2026-07-02 192718.png THEN hit the ENTER key and get:

if you highlight/select
2 separated post which I can....
a specific part of the quote

quote one part at a time, comment then move onto the next.

 Now to make sure I put the right comment under the right quote ;)

Riiiiiiiiiight - exactly - the idea is to highlight the space in between the two parts/portions you wish to separate.

And/But, the "cool" thing about it that I was getting at in the OP was that it separated the two parts while duplicating the 'header' part of the quote onto the other part as it is split in two.

(leaving each part intact as a complete separate "full" quote - header-and-all)

Of course, whatever you select gets replaced - so, you can discard what you do not wish to quote in the same action.

Hey! SO @GaryA I actually got to use this trick!
I had quoted a full post, and as I was writing my reply I realized I wanted to break it down and reply section by section and then remembered about this, gave it a try and oh my! What a sanity (and time) saver!

Yes that is something new, how did you figure that out?
