Shalom to all. I wanted to briefly talk about two commandments from Deuteronomy, which I forgot to mention the other day in the article, "Commandments from Deuteronomy for this day and age." So, here are two more. If you look at them, you can agree that they are also for today:
DEUT 22:6-7; This talks about taking eggs or young birds from a nest, yet first, chase the mother bird away.
This reminds us of the "chicken coop" or the "hen house" scene. I remember when I was young, about 10 years old (1964), my mom and dad used to go to our friends' house in the countryside. The "Teal" family had a chicken coop. Their daughter, Glenda, and I would go out to gather eggs, but making sure the nest was empty first, or if the hen was on the nest, Glenda would nudge it lightly, and the hen would get off the nest, and we would take the eggs.
DEUT 22:8; . instructs homeowners to build a parapet or railing around the edges of their flat roofs to prevent people from falling off, thereby avoiding responsibility for blood guilt or unintended death. The law is a safety measure, reflecting the multiple uses of flat roofs in ancient Israelite culture, such as for sleeping and entertaining, and serves as an early example of a building regulation. This commandment could also be for today, as well, if a builder decides to have a flat roof instead of the normal slanted roof.
ISAIAH 54:1-10
“Shout O Barren one, you who bore no child, shout aloud for joy…” When does a barren woman shout for joy because she cannot have children? I would guess that it depends on the circumstances. This reminds us of Sarah, who was barren, yet she did not give up hope, despite her error, in giving to Abraham her servant Hagar, YHVH still blessed her, and her child “Yitzchak” was the blessing she hoped for, her “offspring will dispossess nations” from Yitzchak(Isaac) to Ya’akov (Jacob) from Ya’akov to the 12 sons, and from the 12 sons, we are all here today, many of us mixed in the with the nations, yet we are all still here.
The LORD has called us back! There was a time when we didn’t give spiritual things a second thought; the Bible was just another book on the bookshelf. I for sure didn’t have any interest in it growing up as a teenager. Yet the LORD called me through another teen, and from there, Bible study groups in the Army, and from there to Bible College.
The LORD is calling us back! Many are coming back, yet others do not heed the calling. This is what the Hebrew month of "Elul" is all about. We are in that month now. He is calling us to RETURN to Him, (Teshuvah) is the Hebrew word for repentance, for "returning" with renewed minds and hearts
We are chastised, yet we are forgiven; the LORD chastens all whom he receives. I think that the worst type of chastening is having an indifferent spirit, neither hot nor cold. The LORD has taken us back in love. His love is seen in Yeshua HaMashiach, who gave his all for us all!
JOHN 12:1-50
Nearing the time of Passover, when Yeshua entered Jerusalem, people welcomed him. We know the story, with palm branches. It reminds us of the first Passover when a lamb was to be taken on the tenth day of Nissan and then sacrificed on the 14th. The Lamb of YHVH entered on the tenth day and gave up his life on the 14th.
Yet before Calvary, he made a statement: “Unless a grain of wheat that falls to the ground dies, it stays just a grain, but if it dies, it produces a big harvest.” What is he saying here? HE is the grain of wheat that died, yet rose again with life. WE are the big harvest of believers that have come from his death and resurrection, and when we “sow the seed” (God’s Word), we are helping to create big harvests. Yet we need to understand that some seed will land on stony ground; not all seed that falls to the ground will sprout. There is a difference between “on” the ground and “in” the ground. If we are “in” the ground, and we respond to the “Living Water” and the “SON light,” then we will “sprout and come up”
We need to "sow the seed of the WORD" to all who will hear, and not to worry about those who will listen or not. Not all seeds sprout. Yet those that DO sprout, Glory to God!
