She was the shining star in her daddy’s eyes. She was the one that brightened everyone’s day. She was always smiling, laughing, and telling even strangers that she loved them. It was about making a gloomy day, much brighter.

She enjoyed the outside, no matter how hot, or cold. Hardly ever a complaint to leave her lips, only glee and joyful words. Nothing seemed to bother her, to any degree. This was a dream come to to two parents who had believed they would never have any children.
He was someone that was a strong soldier since birth. He was someone who was eager to be born, regardless of the current circumstance. He had many birth defects, with some major health issues. One in which where his lungs were not full developed.
He stayed in an incubator for three months, his parents had to make the worst decision that they would ever haft to make. To allow the machines to breathe for him, or to cut the machines off and allow nature to take it’s course.

However, he was a fighter none the less. He stood firm in his own little body, and fought his way through with flying colors. This one situation had frightened his own family.
One evening, it was getting dark, this little guy was stretching in his incubator. His hand accidentally knocked the breathing tube from his nostrils. Was it told before that this little guy was a fighter?

His parents had thought that it was still on him, to help him breathe through the night as they slept. They were wrong. The machine was off for well over nine hours. As they awoke, they were frightened. What parent wouldn’t be right?
They rushed to catch up with a nurse in the hall. They were frantic, screaming, asking questions to as how this hospital could have aloud this to happen?

The nurse replaced the breathing tube on the infant. However, in this situation, a baby would be blue in the face from lack of oxygen. This little fighter was far from it. His cheeks were red, he was smiling, he was very happy to be alive.
It was a miracle as any miracle would be. He was indeed a fighter. Nothing could have ever stopped this little guy. He was a worrier, he was ready to taker on the world. Maybe this little push was all he needed after all.
His parents had indeed counted their blessings, not a day had gone by that was taken in vein. They cherished every second, of every day with their precious baby boy.

Years progressed as these two became stronger. She was the head of the Debate Team, as he was the one that everyone saw as, ‘cool.’ Needless to say, these two grew up on the apostate parts of the Country. Until they both got accepted to the best college in New York.
They were both Sophomores in college when they met, he had the pocket protector inside his shirt pocket, with black rimmed glasses. He may have had some defects, however his mind was profound in knowledge. It happened fairly quickly as they were both walking down the hall.
He accidentally bumped into her, allowing her books to drop on the floor. His pulse began to race in embarrassment, as he fought for the words for a simple apology. She looked at him with locked eyes, brushing her hair behind her ear. All she could do was to smile.
He picked up her Biology text and noticed a certain flyer that had slipped from it’s cover. “Space Shuttle launch, Florida, BE THERE, BE SQUARE.” He began to laugh with a blush. Never had he known such a beautiful lady to like the same things he had.

She was wondering what he was laughing at. She felt embarrassed to ask, then he pulled out the same flyer from his back pocket. “Would you like to go with me? It can be casual of course, I just never had any true friends who shared the same interests as I do.”
She fumbled for words of her own as she replied, “true friends?” She said with her blue eyes glowing, a smile stretched across her cheeks. He began to blush more, “yes, if that is OK? The name is Jamie. Yours?” He stuck his hand out for a hand shake.
Her eyes grew large in disbelief. “Jamie? Are you stalking me or something? That is my name.” He stepped back about to fumble over his own feet. While putting his hands in-front of him for defense. “I assure you, I am no stalker, here is my I.D.”
They exchanged their school I.D.s and smiled at each other. “I will see you at the bus terminal for Florida Jamie,” She said with a smile. “You bet Jamie, enjoy your weekend.” He replied with a grin.

The event in Florida was like non-other. The crowd was cheering when the shuttle blasted off. It was a dream come true to these two, mainly because since childhood, the lady named Jamie had always wanted to be an Astronaut.
The guy named Jamie, well he simply wanted to study the shuttle itself. In turn, during the blastoff Jamie got closer to him. Inch, by inch she neared to him for comfort. Without realizing she grabbed his hand, and held on tight. The excitement she was experiencing was like a firework on The Fourth of July inside of her own heart.

His hands began to tremble, he had always wanted to feel another’s hand within his own. This very day, they both fell in love without telling the other.
Many times after this trip they had gone out. The candle lit dinners had always been her favorite. As he sang lightly while holding her hand within his own.
Times like these had hardly ever lasted. Time had it’s own way to express it’s own emotion. It goes so fast, that it was just like yesterday that they had gotten married.

The wedding was too perfect. All she could do to fight back the tears that wanted to shine down her cheek. As he removes her veil from her face, all he could do was smile within his own happiness.
The preacher went through the ceremony, as he asked her the same questions as he had done prior before, her eyes glistened with a smile.
Tears began to fall as she replied softly, “I do, I had always wanted to. From the very moment we met so long ago.” The years have passed by before they thought about having children. Their dream was to have a little boy, and a little girl. Never had they thought it would come to this.
The moment she realized that she was pregnant, was the moment they both realized that twins were involved. They were both excited about this new turn of events. They have done all that they could to prepare for the big day that they bring their babies home for good. That way they could start their lives together the right way.

The day had finally come when she woke him up. “Jamie,” she said while rocking her husband awake. “Honey, we haft to go to the hospital. It is time.” His eyes flew open as he jumped out of bed. It was two in the morning, at this time of night thoughts tend to be jumbled up.
He had forgotten her suitcase. No matter, due to the recent events nothing else mattered to him. He wanted to welcome his children into the world. He wanted to finally be a complete family. Time is all they had at this point.

He threw on the hazard lights in their Jeep, and spun the tires into hyper over drive. His speed limit was well over the posted sign’s approved speed. Only to find out that she was a ticking time bomb. Her water fully broke while in the backseat clenching her hand to the seat for safety.
There was to be no way that she would give birth to their children inside a vehicle. He started to speed up faster until he ran into the light pole just outside of the main entrance to the Emergency Room. He never thought this would cause any damage.
He jumped out of the car to get a wheel chair for his wife. As he approached, he smelled a strange smell from the vehicles radiator. He threw open the Jeep’s passenger door, then pushed the seat up so he could retrieve his wife. He safely placed her into the wheel chair and ran her inside for the delivery.

Her contractions started to get worse, as their doctor gave her husband explicit instructions to stay out of the way because the mother is in distress. First came the little boy, all smiles. He cried loudly for the doctor, as the doctor seemed very pleased by this outcome.
“Now, Mrs. Hendrix, it is time for baby number two. Are you ready?” She shook her head yes in unison to the doctor’s words. As the little girl came out, the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. The doctor rushed the little baby to the NICU. To where they fought for hours to revive the little girl.
Her parents were both in tears, not knowing what to do. From this moment on the best thing her husband did was to ask for the hospital’s Chaplain. He arrived with his Bible, grabbed both of their hands and prayed for the little girl’s life. He gave them his card so that they could call them, “I am available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. I will stay here for a little while, however when I leave, please call me with any changes.”
The next thing they knew the doctor came in to the delivery room. He found her husband sleeping in the recliner, as she was wide awake shaking in fear. The news could not be any worse. “Mam, we had to put your baby girl in an incubator to help her breath. Her lungs were not fully developed to where the umbilical cord made it harder for her to survive. She is stable… for now. However, the next few hours are crucial to her survival. You may see her in the morning.”

She could not sleep at all that night, her husband was snoring away. Her thoughts rang true to where she asked herself, “how could he sleep at a time like this?” She threw a pillow at him to wake him up. “Baby,” he said as he came closer to her bed, “I am sorry I fell asleep. It is just I am very drained, I had a dream that the doctor came in and stated that our baby girl was in an incubator for infants.”
His wife began to cry hysterically as he wrapped his arms around her to comfort her. “I am so scared Jamie, she is so tiny. What could we have done wrong?” She asked him with her face buried in his chest. “We have done nothing wrong sweetheart, it is all my fault. I had birth defects, now they have been passed onto our precious baby girl.”

She shot up and placed her hand on his cheek as she looked at him deep in the eyes. “Baby, this is not your fault. Please do not blame yourself. These things do happen, however why did it have to happen to our precious baby girl?”
Before they knew it they awoke the next morning to a knock on the door from the doctor, and chaplain. They helped the couple into the NICU so that they can make the dreadful decision, to allow the baby to live by the machine. Or, to let nature take it’s course.
They all gathered around the incubator where their baby was laying. Sleeping, taking in deep breaths as the machine she was hooked up to breathed for her. Her parents put their hands inside the attached gloves, then held onto each hand as they all closed their eyes and prayed.
They took an hour in prayer, pleading for this little girl’s life. The doctor asked her parents if they would like to hold their baby. They each took turns, as they made the decision to allow nature to take it’s course. The baby never stopped breathing, she opened her eyes with a big smile.

The memories of this event flooded her parents for years. They only spoke of it as the day the earth stood still, with a miracle waiting to happen. It has been ten years since this had happened. All all they could do is count their blessings as they watch their children play in the back yard in the snow.
Their baby girl had shown no further signs of her nightmare at the hospital. Even though, the nightmare was no nightmare, but a miracle from God waiting to happen which made everything so much better.

Never had they known, the Chaplain was an Angel from God. He had watched over their little baby girl the whole night with his wings stretched out. As his hands placed firmly on the glass, as he bowed his head to pray. “Father, you are the best person in everyone’s life. Please, I ask you, spare this little girl’s life for this couple. Please open your heart towards them, and allow them to see their baby girl alive, and healthy. Amen”
