My journey started about 5 1/2 years ago. I felt a need to fill a void. That's all it was. I knew something was missing. Financially I wasn't doing well. I was separated from my husband, worked full time and had 2 kids to raise. I heard about The Secret from Oprah and thought that might be it, so I began studying it. It all sort of made sense. Then I found the book The New Earth by Eckart Tolle and began studying that. Again, it was kind of making sense. Some months later, still reading, I discovered Wayne Dyer and bought 2 of his books. I was reading and studying all the time, convinced these books had to have the answer. They talked about positiveness, send good messages into the universe, visualize the life you want and it'll just happen. Poof. Throughout this time nothing in my life really changed. I wasn't feeling happier, figured I was doing it wrong, wasn't filling any void. Nothing went Poof. And I couldn't understand why.
I don't remember the order of these next 2 events, but they changed my life and my heart 100 times over. I went to a Christmas Eve service, Christmas 2008, when my kids were with their dad and I just felt like I needed it. Half of it was in Spanish, which I don't speak so afterwards I made the decision to find a church that would fit me better. I took my daughter with me the first Sunday of 2009 to the nearest Methodist church. We loved it. Welcoming, loving, friendly. We went back the next Sunday, brought my son as well and we all loved it, we were welcomed with open arms.
They remembered our names! Ok, around this time I landed on a Joyce Meyer teaching on tv and couldn't turn it off. And after a while I realized she was telling me to do all the things these books had been telling me but she was giving me a reason - GOD! She used scripture to back up what she said. She explained about God's love, grace, forgiveness, and then, THEN, it all really made sense.
I've been attending that same Methodist church ever since, my kids are very involved and I am Vice President of our United Methodist Women unit. I am so very very grateful for the pastor, the congregation and to Joyce Meyer to showing me where the answers really are.
