A person is able to read the Bible only a few words at a time,
so if you were supplying soldiers fighting a spiritual war in which God's Word was your ammunition,
in what order would you pass out the ammo? đź“–

Please share only one verse or pericope at a time so that it can be discussed and evaluated,
and then someone else can share their preference. Thanks!

To prime your pump, I will begin by supplying 1Tim. 2:3-4,
"This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Comment, then your suggestion?

This thread got buried quickly, so I will go ahead and comment on my reasons for beginning reading the Bible with 1Tim. 2:3-4.

First, it indicates the purpose of human existence/creation: Learning ultimate truth in order to have eternal fellowship with God.

Second, it heads heresies that corrupt the Gospel and denigrate God's goodness off at the pass.

Third, it leads right into the next ammo I would provide someone fighting the spiritual war against evil,
which I will share after giving y'all another chance to state the first Scripture you would arm others with.

Actually....
Before a person who speaks, reads, and writes English as a primary language takes on scripture....
They need a history lesson PLUS an anthropology lesson. A few topography, geography, agriculture, and climatology lessons would also be good. Basic information about health and natural toxicity from various activities probably wouldn't hurt either.

The scriptures are two thirds poetry from 2,000-6,000 years ago on the other side of the planet....a completely foreign culture to English speaking thoughts. Many of the positive terms from then have very negative connotations today. Since nobody understands them....they see good things as negatives.

The biggest issue we have in Christianity today is the lack of proper hermeneutics when reading scriptures.

How can the metaphors and symbolisms be understood without having any background context?
Especially when Hebrew is a verb-based metaphoric language?

People who glibly throw out such terms as "sola scriptura" are idiots....we dont have an audio section of the bible that teaches the alphabet....

John's Gospel starts off with a beautiful bit of poetry....it still reads nice in English....but its concepts are best taken in slowly.
1:12 and 1:14 are some of my favorite verses....

1:12 because it's wrong and cannot be written in English correctly.
(Past tense instead of the tense of past, present, and future all at the same time....because we dont have that tense in English)
AND
1:14 because it's the lense/Rosetta stone with which the entire New Testament is about.


And on a personal note....nope....I'm asleep at the wheel today.

Well, I see you do not want to share what Scripture you would provide first as ammo for spiritual warfare.
I might mention that the idea of a triage plan was prompted by another thread that proposed reading Scripture,
but it seemed rather arbitrary and superficial. Thus, my desire is for us to be intentional and comprehensive.

I can understand why folks would want to ponder this idea for while before proposing their most valuable verse(s).

Patriarch/patriarchy
Most modern women today cannot see this as a positive.

However, when Moses made this a Law....the women cheered. No different from when the firstborn would get a double portion....the entire family cheered then too.
For the women then had access to God and a means of justice for themselves.
A patriarch had a duty to treat everyone in the family fairly and ensure everyone's needs were met.
It was for this reason why plural marriage was not only allowed but encouraged....because wives were supposed to assist their husbands in areas he, himself, could not go or manage. And quite often one woman is simply not enough to manage all she needed to. People look at the sex because our society is oversexed....but in truth it was a bunch of work managing servants and hired hands and children and daily chores.

If a firstborn son only had one wife and the family was large....when he received his double portion from the patriarch dying....it still would be met with cheers because the family was going to get an infusion of youth in its leadership. But also....there would be a race among the unmarried to see who could get married to the new patriarch. 2nd wife wasn't as responsible as first wife.

But also times were so different. People and children died....a LOT....quite often from a huge variety of things. Old age was for the lucky. Making it to 30-something usually meant you were gonna live....mostly. but still lots of things existed like famine, plague, war, and pestilence. Weak did not survive easily or often. And women were weaker than men. And in a world where "might makes right"....women are losers....EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The two are very very powerful verses.

James 4:7
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

These two go hand in hand, you cannot resist the devil and fight him if you aren't submitting to God.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

This verse is of great importance to new believers. They will not get sucked into calvinism or fatalism of any kind knowing and believing that verse. They will understand that they CAN live holy. God has provided the grace. It also gives hope that no matter how bad the temptation or situation is, there is always a way out.

Good pairing of Scripture in the same vein, so Scripture interprets Scripture.

And thanks for explaining the reason you deem them of primary importance in spiritual warfare.

That is a good scripture for people to relate to the world to let people know right away that they have a chance of salvation giving them hope to look in to it.

People will go by their feelings and some say God does not want me, does not care about me, and feel as if they cannot be saved.

An example is when the wrath of God is poured upon the heathen that they blaspheme God and the reason for this is they do not feel there is a chance to be saved.

When they take the mark of the beast then salvation is no longer available to them and they will have the nature of a devil.

With the devils they do not plead to be saved, do not pursue to be right again for they feel it is not possible.

Which they told Jesus will you torment us before the time, and when the devil is cast to earth to deceive he is mad for he knows his time is short, and the devils believe there is one God and they tremble.

If people preach God chose who will be saved and the rest He discards these people who feel that they cannot be saved will not pursue the truth feeling it does not matter.

Making that doctrine extremely dangerous in saving souls.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

God said that He wants all people to be saved.

And the Spirit and bride say any person can have that salvation.

That is what the Church is supposed to be saying any person can have salvation.

All those souls not coming to God because they feel they cannot be saved and the people preaching God does not want all people to be saved reinforces it and causes them to not try.

But if they know God wants all people to be saved they can abandon their feelings and have hope that they can be saved.

Judgement day there will be people not in the truth that actually thwarted people from embracing Christianity by false teaching and hypocrisy turning people away or making them like them.

Yes, and the Scripture reference for "Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world" is 1John 4:4.

Anyone else want to supply most important ammo for fighting the spiritual war?

Do you want OT or NT

Because the book of Proverbs has short verses and you can read one chapter a day for a month as there are 31 Chapters.
You could divide these into 7 verses and have 1 for each day.

It's a book of spiritual wisdom for those that don't know. Proverbs are easy to remember.

Can start with the first one and work our way through it in the order it was written.

Do you want us to explain or discuss it after you post it...and then post the next one, or do you want us to take turns posting the verses.

Has to be in order otherwise people will get confused and just post random verses willy-nilly.
