A woman's head covering?

Let's revisit my earlier statement.

Good Hermeneutics means:

YOU SHOULD NEVER MAKE A DOCTRINE OUT OF AN ISSUE WHICH APPEARS ONLY ONE PLACE IN SCRIPTURE.

I could honestly cry when I read about that head covering movement. I thought it might be someone joking and using an undercover profile. But the site looked real. One passage of scripture, and women are in total bondage.

Christ came to set us free!

"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." Gal. 5:1

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

A true woman is one who obeys the call of God on her life. That may be as a wife and mother, a missionary, a teacher, doctor, lawyer or even a politician. Women are 50% of the world, and dominant in churches. God will use whosoever he may.

You may want to live in the 1950's, but the world has moved on. Men who continue to bash women are going to find themselves left behind by God. God wants ALL his children to be involved in reaching the world for Christ. That includes women. To suggest that women should go back to some atypical, unbiblical stereotypical model will turn away many from the gospel. The real gospel of salvation through the blood of Christ, not a gospel of works, in which women must conform to a model of virtual slavery according to the words you have posted above.

God wants the gospel preached to all. That includes feminist women. Demanding they go back into your 1950's box is NOT the gospel. It is interesting, but most educated women that I know are anti-abortion, and married. I have 4 children, and two grandchildren, and I am a teacher and a chaplain, and a worker in my church, in women's ministries, worship and evangelism. None of your above blanket labels fit!

When it comes to serving the Lord our God, how are we to say what displays of obedience are any more minor than another.

Not that we're SAVED by works, but our works (what we do) certainly do display ones obedience to the Lord, correct?
If it is true then that Love is something we do and not just say...
One must show they Love and Respect God first and foremost before they can expect to show it to others
If all people do is say they Love God yet still walk their own self-willed path, how are they to be used by God and what example are they to others?
Much like a stubborn horse must be broken, to be a servant to its master.
Our own will must be broken, so we can serve our master
But once broken and cooperation is developed through a trusting faithful relationship, that horse is highly regarded isn't it.
I suppose it mostly depends upon ones willingness to follow instead of kick against the Lord when prodded

You implicitly tell me " Censure the true meaning of these verses please ! " for the sake of your own contention with the Lord's Word !
As Ponce Pilate answered to the contentious pharisees who wanted to change and censure the Lord's Word :
" Quod scripsi, scripsi ! " " What I have written, I have written ! "
That means what the Lord has written, He has written ! And you, simple human, cannot change and censure one jot or one tittle of It no matter how contentious you are with It !

Pardon me? I'm not some droid, feminist Jezebel. I am a Christian. I am a mother. A loving mother at that, and my hair is long.
I'm not brainwashed. I am not one that feels women are above men either. So I do find your post a little disrespectful to Godly women everywhere.

This passage has always been hard for me to explain. What say ye on the meaning of it?

Part of the trickiness is that this passage contains homonyms; words that have the same spelling but different meanings. The primary example is "head".

Conservative groups such as the Amish would take this passage to mean that the hair needs to be covered in public. Others interpret it to say that the hair must only be covered when praying and prophesying. Still others interpret it that the hair does not need to be covered at all.

And then there is the technicality of how much the ladies hair should be covered, if it must be covered; Just a light wholly fabric or an all out hijab?

What do you think about "it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off" and "if a woman has long hair, it is her glory"? Should ladies not be cutting their hair?

I haven't cut my hair since 1997. my hair isn't very long, it breaks a lot. and my daughter is 11 and has never had her hair cut either. This very passage is why, it says that the hair was given to a woman as a covering. This very covering is a sign of submissiveness to man, who is submissive to GOD as well. It is giving to the authority that GOD placed over us women. We are not to be in authority over a man, as it is stated in other scriptures.

it isn't about how long your hair is, it is about not cutting it. some women can't grow long hair (me).

amish women cover it up with a wrap of some sort, mennonite women as well. but when you read the whole passage it says the covering is the hair, and it is a shame for man to have long hair and for women to shave their head (cut).
