I woke up early this morning and was reading through a chapter in Isaiah. A portion of that chapter goes right along with your study.

Isaiah 32:15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.
Isaiah 32:16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

What a statement!

"Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high."

"and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest."

"Then...judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field."

The result of this:

"And the work of righteousness shall be peace,"

And the effect:

"Righteousness, quietness and assurance forever."

That passage reminded me of what Jesus said here:

John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
John 4:36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

Tree's can bear good fruit and bad fruit. Even in the natural there are fruit trees that are very poisonous. We definitely wouldn't want to eat from one of those trees.

The bible gives examples of both good fruit and bad fruit, good branches and branches that don't bear fruit as you showed in what you shared.

In the end, the entire world is going to be reaped and if we consider what Jesus said in the above passage (John 4.) Israel wasn't producing a "righteous harvest."

Matthew 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Revelation 14:16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

Matthew 13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Matthew 13:48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

This is a worthwhile study, and important for every believer. I hope that it can be continued peacefully and with scripture rather than opinions.

First, grapevines aren't your standard-issued trees. (Which brought me to my question.) Second, here's a scriptural-laden response to this thread, which is both peaceful and a great rebuttal.

I thought her response answered your question? But concerning the branches that bear fruit, and that he prunes to bear more fruit, and concerning the branches in Him that do not bear fruit and he takes away, I believe can be shown here as well.

Did you copy and paste some of DH's response?

It really still didn't answer my question though. I'm a gardener. There are several meanings to the word prune. You even used a completely different word (in modern context) in your original post. The word you used, wasn't prune/cut off. So, really really, you need to learn about the context and words you're teaching before teaching it. That word has too many different meanings and yet it came from ancient Greek, so there are ways to learn it. Swapping translations to meet your particular need at the moment someone asks a question isn't one of them.

As I said, I did learn this stuff now from someone else. It works for me as a gardener, because now I understand how to "prune" a grapevine. You don't lop off branches. You just don't. No fruit if you do, and keeping the good branches is the only reason to have a vine, because they develop fruit.

I'd say be careful what you fertilize with.......some has more useless weed seeds than its worth.
