So, I know this is bad, but I am a young mother. 18 actually. Yes, its a sin, I'm well aware, so please don't act like I'm unaware. I've confronted, repented, and discontinued my sin...

BUT! For all the mothers out there, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice that I may need. My baby girl is due November 9th, and I'd like to raise a loving, kind, gentle, well mannered, and modest daughter. Any advice you have for me? :)

Bless you for desiring these godly characteristics for your daughter :)

Baby books are a great way to prepare for motherhood! Also, when I became a mom I started going to church again. Funny how parenthood changes one's perspective. My children started in Sunday School being propped up in a 'baby table' and the teacher sang the lesson. I couldn't believe those babies listened for about 45 minutes! Sometimes one would be fussy but usually they loved it :) .

Praying for a healthy baby for you and that your pregnancy and delivery go well :)

Talk to and pray with your baby.
Smile and tell her she is precious, and that you love her!
Babies learn to trust you by how you care for them.
So if she cries and you can't get to her right aways...
Tell her your coming...you will be right there...
mama love you...
It calms them to know you hear them.

When she gets older...
Don't ever punish her with out hearing her side first.
They sometimes have good motives behind bad actions.
Always explain why things are wrong, or why she is in trouble.
That way she understands you mad at her behavior...
but you still love her.

God bless you and your child, Shekaniah

Stop beating your self up. Yes u are haveing a baby young and your not married. But u are keeping her and want to do right by her that say a lot about u in a very good way. Its going to be hard at frist and u will make mistakes every mother has but the joy of seeing her grow is all worth it. U need to find a church that u like and start going to it now there u will find people who will help u on this new path u going to take.

Your baby also needs a father to guide and protect her as she is growing up. The bble tells us that a family institution starts with union of 2 people of the opposite sex (male and female, NEVER male and male or female and female or even transgender). It is the responsibility of these 2 persons in union to raise their offspring in accordance to bibilical principles.

While I admire your noble intention of wanting to raise your baby alone, I can't see any other ways except what i've said.

Love your child, othes and God, as God Our father loves you.
This love is a love of setting aside one's self for the sake of another.
Often requiring sacrifice, always putting first your child's needs, even when it means having to chastize your child for their sake.
Your child recieving this love from you, and seeing it given to others, will grow well fed on love, wisdom and faith , reciving a heart of charity and rightousness. :)
Your child will know perfect love, not because you are perfect, which although we strive to be, :) but because the witness of your life lived in Jesus, always speaks to your child's heart.

In Jesus :)
God bless

After God your baby needs both parents actively involve in her life.Remember, Mary had Joseph to help her with her son Jesus. That is God's provided way in raising children. You have done well in repenting and turning away from sin. The whole of Heaven rejoiced when one sinner repent and i also rejoice for your momentous decision . If the father of your child is not around, don't ever forget that God provide for his own in every situations. You will have to be strong and very courageous in The Lord Jesus Christ. My prayers are with you and your child. God bless. Male prospective.

First, it may sound like a joke, but i'm totally serious. Watch Supernanny, that woman has some mad child raising skills and you can learn a lot by seeing what she teaches these familys.
Second, while i do believe the ideal situation for raising a child is a mother and father, sometimes it doesn't work out that way. The dad refuses to be involved, or was abusive, and it would be worse to have him around. Though its important for that male aspect, don't rush off to find a man. You have a responability to this child to protect it, first and foremost. You need to go slow with any man in a relationship and not rush into things. You need time for his character to come out, and that won't happen in 6 months. You're better off with no man, than rushing into a bad relationship where you argue constantly, or he's abusive, or even worse, a pedophile. So don't let people make you feel an urgent need to throw a man into your childs life. Be wise, be cautious, be patient.

Also, i'd say, while all parents naturally have ideas for how they hope their kids turn out, keep in mind kids are people too, with their own personalities. Its a bit of a balancing act, trying to mold them into all the good ideals you have, while still allowing them to be themselves.

A few things i know are vitally important, discipline wise. Never threaten a punishment unless you are committed to following it through 100%. Ending a punishment early, or making idle threats only teach them you are not serious and don't need to be listened to.
Never yell. All punishment, whether its just a talk, or something bigger should be done in a clam voice. Soon as you raise your voice, you lose. Your child stops listening to your words, and only hears your anger. The anger does not deter them, but it actually teaches them that you are only to be listened to when you yell. It also gives them a sense you are not in control, which can create fear in them, since you are supposed to be the one reliable thing they can count on.
Don't repeat requests. Teach your children to listen immediately. The more you repeat yourself and don't provide discipline for not listening, the more they learn they can get away with not listening. You want them listening after one or two times, not twenty (which can literally happen).
Never hit a child in anger.
(Please no one argue this one and derail the thread, i'm not recommending it, just providing tips on doing it properly). If you choose to spank you child, it should always be a last resort, and saved for bigger problems, not used as a day to day punishment. The ideal way is to send the child to their room, wait a few minutes so you can calm down from the frustration of the situation. Then, once you are calm, go in and proceed to give the spanking. Spanking should not be used as an outlet to vent by parents.

That should be a good start. Though i'm not a mother, i have seen these things first hand, and the damage of not following these guidelines.

Ugly,

Good insight!

I always ask my kids to repeat back what I said...
That's how I know they listened and understood me.
If they misunderstood me...I rephrase what I said the first time.
I also think this helps them retain the lesson.

I also ask them how they could have done what they did difrently,
or what they should have done instead.

Time goes by so fast...before you know it you will be chasing a toddler!
I'm still praying for you!
Love in Jesus, Shekaniah
