The average home in America is usually one-story, and is about 2,500 square feet. In more expensive neighborhoods, the houses usually run 4,000 sf or more. My niece and her husband are both doctors, and they live in a 12,000 sf home... and that is just the house, not the garage or the pool area, both of which almost double the square footage.

I once worked on a house for Matt Geiger (basketball pro). As I recall, it was 34,000 sf.

A very small percentage of homes in Florida are built of wood. Most are of CBC (Concrete Block Construction) The brick work here is usually a façade, laid over (alongside) the blocks.
 
This is Matt Geiger's house that I mentioned. I was wrong on the size. The actual "living space" is only 28,000 sf. Those inclined ramps (they look like railings on either side of the entry) are actually driveway ramps so you can drive right up to the front door for disembarking. There is a parking lot off to the side of the house for the limousines. LOL

I drove down to my parents last weekend and finally told them I was close to closing on a house. I showed them the pictures from the listing....and they really seem to dislike it. The smaller size and the fact that it's so old. Those are the things I love the most though.

Also....limousine parking :D
