Why did they die? Also, how is this not happening to modern day churches (not that I want anyone dead)? (*sincerely wants to hear your notes on this*)

Ananias and Sapphira was clearly NOT believers....read the passage in context.
Ac 5:13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
Here is the point...that false believers no longer came into the assembly...but more BELIEVERS where added to the assembly.
No reason to assume they had the Holy Spirit...the Holy Spirit being in the assembly of the believers and before the Holy Spirit and the assembly, they lied. I think its clear they did not have the Holy Spirit because they was not believers.Point taken. Were they not believers when they had the Holy Spirit in them? Or am I misunderstanding Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

It was a new thing, God did things different then because it was so small.
Today we are established, God does not need to do this because his truth is out there.

Agreed; they were going along with the crowd. They were swept up in a popular movement and were interested only in appearances. They thought that the price of their property minus what they skimmed off was the price they had to pay to join the club, but it turned out that they paid with their lives.
If GOD did that today, there wouldn't be a lot of people left in some churches...
That does not mean it is not true.I don't have a ready answer at hand, but that reason doesn't seem to fly with me. After all, do not "naysayers" declare the same thing about miracles, healing, and gifts still existing today?

So, if you, or I, or any of us tells a lie, we are not Christians?
So God would kill them when they still need saved?
I have a hard time believing this. Now the sin unto death, This I can believe.

Willie read the context of what I said...stop looking for things to debate for debates sake.
In context the passage separates believers and non-believers...These people where not believers and thought they could play a game with God and God made a point out of them.
Well you have to believe that God killed His own people when He swore that He would have mercy...so believe what you want, but I think the context is clear that they was not believers.
But, we are not told that they are not Believers (or that they "are", for that matter). We cannot go basing anything upon speculation, and then claim subsequent decisions based upon that guess as being, somehow, now solid facts.
The truth is.... we really don't know everything about those two.
