wow, how much do you think it's worth if you don't mind me asking? What do you plan to do with it?

yes, indeed, all signings took place with the lawyer, yesterday, Monday. her house & land will be mine officially after all tax & title searches, searches of liens, encumbrances, heirs, trusts, will & whatever else. praise Jesus!!! & my friend the best real estate agent around, already has 2 buyers!!!

Wow, so what will you do with the money?

I did not know people did that, leave inheritances for carers not their family. But I suppose they do.
She's still alive right? Or has she passed away.

Well praise God anyway!

I need to use mine to pay the dentist.

they sure do. i've been caring for her for many years. she was an only child & when she grew up, never married or had kids. lived a life of a loner. her hobbies were reading & drawing. never went anywhere, just about. 1 day earlier this year, she said to me: "karlon, i'll give you the land across the street so i don't have to pay you to mow it". next week she said she would give me the house. still alive. i'm in the process of consulting a very good friend about applying it to stocks. my friend has earned millions in the stock business. i, unfortunately, know nothing about stocks. a while back i thought about it but it just didn't seem right for me. if i choose not to apply to stocks, i'll spend it on hot commodity antiques. speaking of which, just today, i bought another Mobil Pegasus porcelain embossed sign. they are extremely sough after by automobile collectors.

just as the lawyer said, early September the deal will be finalized. & it was! 3 bidders are mulling over the purchase of my new inherited land. praise Jesus. i've been caring for the elderly & handicapped since 1983 voluntarily & this is God's grace to me. i bless, praise & thank Jesus!!!

Wow what other 'hot commodity' antiques are you thinking of buying.

The only thing I need is a new rubber brake pedal cover for my Suzuki, I mean it's an antique now the car was made back in 2013 and still runs on gas.

i already have scheduled a by-out of a regular customer's granite-ware, enamel-ware & spatter ware, over 100 pieces, plus his 2 indian brand canoes & their oars, fishing poles & 16 sets of old enamel ware kitchen tables & chairs. from a soon to be new customer, i'm going to buy charles doepke & smith-miller toys, lastly, the estate of a long time acquaintance who passed will have old toys, cast iron plaques & misc. automobilla for sale.

Oh wow that's a lot of..wares

Went to an antique shop near Sydney, there's a town that has them all along it's main street. One of them, called 'Dirty Janes' is honestly like the antique version of Ikea.

Just looked, didn't buy anything. I don't really value antiques but my brothers do. One collects planes (wooden tool ones) and restores old cars (Packard) and trams, ferries etc and the other likes Titanic memorabilia and chinoiserie.

The oldest thing I probably own is a Bible. I don't really consider mum's things I inherited mine since I didn't buy them or ask for them. But she does have a foot operated Singer sewing machine, that I suppose could be considered antique.

if you find an antique, consult your brothers, it may be worth big bucks! every year produces multi thousand $ finds thru out the world. i also collect wooden planes. last Sunday I was a vendor at the Creekside Flea Market in Livingstonville New York & the lady vendor next to me gave me 6 old rabbet & carver's wooden planes. i'm going to use murphy's wood cleaner then finish them off with howard's beeswax. those are some notable interests of your brothers. i hope they find what they are looking for. sure, they ae yours, you inherited them, that's how that works. the land i recently inherited is totally mine.

One brother found or bought a wooden panel from the Olympic ship at auction. Not sure what he plans to do with it, their home is filled with old kauri furniture like some kind of ancient storage facility.

I prefer my collections to be practical, I mean a sewing machine I can use (when I get it fixed, one of the pulleys has broken I think) and not sit around collecting dust. Having said that, my cat likes to sleep on top of it, Then there's all this fabric and sewing paraphenalia mum had in boxes I still need to sort through.

If its still usable and no moth eaten, I could probably give it to a quiltmaker to make some quilts out of, but not all the fabric will be cotton and quiltable. Otherwise I'm not sure what to do with it all. A lot of things I've just donated to the op shop as listing it for sale on trade-me would be too time consuming, and not sure anybody would buy it.

I am not a seamstress though some of my aunts are, they wouldn't have rooms in their homes to store all this fabric.

sure, you definitely should know what you want & it's future value.

I used to work in a Social Work Office providing Home Care for older people. Sadly many older people, even Christians, have large families who never visit. Family in name only. They're not fit for an inheritance. God Bless You :)

i witnessed what you said so much of my life. while visiting residents in nursing homes, you can easily discern who's family is visiting. lot's of times, i see people visit on holidays & they are there for 5 or 10 minutes only.

Some family just don't have anything to inherit, all the money their parents had was going into the nursing home they had to sell the house to get in one - also retirement villages.

But also maybe the family have moved far away i.e not within a days driving distance and can't spend a while heap of time at the nursing home. Not really an excuse though, its just reality for many families. Also many elderly just don't have a choice of what nursing home they may end up in, it depends on available rooms/ beds

Those who need memory care - with dementia etc, some don't even recognise or remember their own family. I think it's very disheartening for the family sons and daughters if your own parent doesn't even know or remember who you are.

there's a statement about that: "some people spend the 1st half of their life gaining their wealth & the 2nd half of their life spending their wealth to gain their health"!!! i know the people i'm talking about, they all live locally but are to selfish & don't care that their relatives are in a nursing home. truly disheartening, hopefully the deceased were born again Christians, they'll get new bodies in heaven.

Sometimes adult children carry resentments about their parents, and may not want to visit. Plus if married the spouse might not want to be around the in-laws, some people would rather marry OUT of their family. You don't really know if they'd been treated badly growing up.

Or maybe they just too busy to even spare 15 minutes IDK I try not to judge too much. Not everyone loves their aging parents.

IMHO this is related to a prophecy in the bible:

2 Timothy 3: 1-5 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

I believe this list is talking of 'Christians'. It's the times we're living in. The last days.

It's good that the lady left her property to you, it surely meant a lot to her knowing that there was someone she could safely leave it to. God Bless You (y)
