A Crown for the Lord

Today is one of those hard days
It is one of those in which
I want both -
to be alone and to be embraced.

And my bottom lip is bruised
from biting it so many times
while restlessly pacing -
yet my thoughts outrun me!

I am honestly trying hard to
focus on the One who brings
the peace I long for
But my prayers are just shambles.

I am dissatisfied even with the word
It seems not to penetrate my skin today
yet a sharp dagger is
sticking out of my chest.

Tears dry uncomfortably on my cheeks
Even 24 hour moisturizer can't do
the miracle performance it said it would
But God does.

My God is acquainted with sorrows
deeper furrows than I have toiled with
He is the master of pains
he has overcome them for my sake.

In him sorrow and joy they
walk beside each other in the dawn
They are united for when
he defeated Sorrow, Joy was born.

So even though tears and pain
are with me for one bad day,
His joy is here
His love is here to stay forever.

Sorrow one day will melt away
Forever tears will dry up,
the dagger will be turned forever
into a golden crown.

Crowns to lay down
at the feet of our Radiant Prince
The lamb who bore my grief
Is worthy of all honor and another Crown.
