Can Christian metal be used as worship music?

well the obvious answer is yes, because true worship happens in spirit regardless of the medium of which it goes through. If our spirit belongs to His, we are truly worshiping the Lord!
 
I've never liked that saying, "there's no such thing as a stupid question". I beg to differ. There are most definitely stupid questions. Definitely.
 
I'm going to be the first "absolutely not" vote here and plan to explain why in simple terms.

1) It's the only form of music that focuses on primarily dark lyrics, frequent screaming, illegible vocals, etc.
2) Singers frequently "eat the mic"
3) It's kind of hard to think on good things when listening to utter confusion.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Note: Alternative Rock is not Metal, I'm referring to Metal and Death Metal here. Screamo, etc. :P

Note 2: Another music that isn't acceptable in terms of getting good thoughts out of is heavy trance. How can you possibly focus on God while listening to confusing repetition all day? You don't, and the middle east uses the music to enter states of hypnosis.

Oh, please! That's probably the most popular out-of-context verse ever.
 
Yes, it's actually the genre that I related to most immediately after I was saved. I listened to Christian metal/rock exclusively for about a month afterwards because the only subject I wanted to listen to was on God. Plus, metal is the genre that feels the most raw to me - I almost always see it as venting with music in the background.

Fair enough, perhaps you get confusion when listening to metal or hypontised by certain music but others may not. When I hear metal I hear harmony and timing. I am able to compartmentalise each instrument sound while it's playing. Ever heard of Gestalt Psychology?

Wow, the amount of plain ignorance is.... sadly not uncommon.

People who criticize 'dark' lyrics should go back and read their bibles again.
And anyone who says all the lyrics are 'dark' clearly is speaking out of assumption and not fact.
Same goes with anyone who refers to all metal as screaming.
How legible the lyrics are can depend a surprising amount on how much you listen to the music and read the lyrics. Over time it becomes easier to discern the lyrics. And even if you can't lyrics are available to read anyways.

Trance is not a religious music. Just because someone takes something and uses it in a bad manner does not make the thing bad itself. If that were the case you'd be sinning right now for being on the internet.

I've seen a number of these kinds of videos. They are full of twisting words and ideas and only weak minded fools would believe half the crap they claim. They pick and choose what things are valid 'proofs' and what things to ignore. They quote secular musicians as if what they say is gospel truth and that what that one musician out of millions has to say somehow represents all of metal and the countless people involved in it.

Screamo is more of an extension of hardcore, perhaps with some metal influences, but not really metal.

I was in High School, I had Spoken's second album on and doing what I did best, I was jumping around screaming a long in my bedroom. But As I really focused on the lyrics and what was being said in the song, God really arrested my heart and before I knew it I was on my knees before Him singing it as a praise song to Him.
