I've spent years (actually decades) researching my ancestors. One of my immigrant ancestors, George Lewes came to he New World in 1633 from England. In England George belonged to Rev. Lothrops Congregation who had separated from th Church of England. The right to freely choose his religion is what brought George Lewes and his family to America.

Has anyone else researched their family history?

Yes, well my brother has for my ancestors. It doesn't go back too far though because mine are from China, and a lot of records and things were lost with the Cultural Revolution etc, but that would go back for thousands of years, dynasties even.

My mum and my grandparents were immigrants to New Zealand, and they came here for a better life. Because we're Chinese we sort of had to assimilate to the way of life here, but we retain our culture and some traditions. And I think regarding religion, we are free to believe what we want, and certainly Christianity has a solid influence here. While most of the Christian population here are Anglicans (from England) or Presbyterians (Scotland) or Catholics (Ireland) there are also newer christian groups. It took me a while to figure out what each one believed and practiced.
