I wanted to try that and I have a few airsoft guns I could use but some people I know tried it and said a lot of people cheat and stuff and its expensive.... yea mainly because its expensive. Looks like a lot of fun though!
I been playing for 5 years and compared to paintball it's super cheap. Of course your rifle will be as good as what you pay. But you can get decent starter rifles between 150 and 250.
Of course it's great to check your local area for groups that play. The group I play with had no problem letting me borrow a rifle to try it out. To me it's cheap and my Rifle I got on sale for 240. It has lasted me 5 years through rain, snow, mud, falls, bumps, and my upgrading skills ( surprised it still worked lol). At the beginning I only had my Rifle, 1 mag, 1 bottle of ammo, 1 battery, and I played with this for a long time until I got better and was recruited into a team.
We have gone to huge operations with over a 100 players. Big facilities and space. Last year we played at a closed down nuclear plant that is now used for SWAT and military training. They had tanks and humvees with CO2 cannons and mounted machine guns that use 100s of BBs a minute.
In the end the only expensive piece would be your rifle or sniper,shotgun, heavy support gun, dmrs, or smgs. They just about make everything.

Once you have that starter package it should last for a long time. Or until your ready to upgrade. Like me my Rifle works fine but after 5 years I'm ready to try out the DMRs designated marksmen rifle. It has the range which is deadly in air soft and it also has your full auto mode just in case you get into a bad situation.
Its fun and good exercise. You meet really friendly people, many who are veterans, or active duty. You learn real life military strategy in combat situations and urban clearing of buildings. MILSIM ( military simulation sport).

Yea I've looked into all that before. I just rechecked the prices at a local airsoft park here and it looks like they've come way down. I might check it out in the spring. I'd love to be on one of those milsim teams. That would be awesome. I actually live fairly close to the airparks here in southern cali. I'll have to keep it in mind for the spring or summer.
I actually have a good rifle that I bought a couple years ago. Its a crosman R76 fully-automatic Ak-74U replica. Its accurate and shoots up to 375fps and puts out something like 300 rounds per minute. It also has a metal magazine that fits almost 300 bb's and its got many metal parts and weighs the same as the real gun. I've heard others say its great on the "battlefield" too.
I also have a Colt 1911 replica thats very accurate and has good fps, but its spring loading and feels plastic. It was cheap lol but its crazy accurate.
Besides those, I have a couple of fairly nice replica BB guns. One is a Colt Commander which is a full metal 1911 replica and has realistic recoil/blowback. The other is a magnum 357 replica revolver but it doesn't have recoil of course.
