An apostle is one who's only task or job is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not a primary job, but the only job. The Apostles were not members of churches and held no position in them. they were not to be bound to churches but to deliver the truth of God's word to them to see if they were still in faith, and that they had not left their first love. Today's apostles are the same. not a member of any church, but still preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Like some of the churches back then refused to except the truth from the apostles, some was right on target with the apostles teachings.
