Can the guy who started this thread define "Christian" for us so the question can be answered?

To me it is "CHRIST LIKE" to be clear never of self effort (s) of belief in God that God by God's self took care of what was needed for us to be born again in God through Son Jesus Christ and thus we walk as he walked in 100% dependency on Father.
This is why he sent the same Holy Ghost that led him to us those that believe. to teach us truth individually and collectively between one another.
Even though the term Christian was used as a derogatory statement to those that believed from those that did not

We hear a lot of people saying:
You just need to believe in Jesus!

However, what exactly does that mean?

[h=3]Colossians 1:21-23[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]21 [/SUP]And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled [SUP]22 [/SUP]in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
[SUP]23 [/SUP]if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

1 John 2:12
I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
1 John 2:2 and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

This is exactly what belief in God entails.

What is repentance?

Change of mind from unbelief to belief in God's finished work for us all.
like a butterfly it was a worm at one point grounded to crawl on the ground, and now being a butterfly, born again to fly.
Now a butterfly will not always do the right thing or go to the right places.
But one thing for sure, it will "NEVER BE A WORM AGAIN"
Get it

homwardbound,

the question is directly and was not referring to any of your post, but was triggered by a curiosity.

let me re phrase my question, are you in your spiritual world (while worshipping your god), and still in the physical, bow down in front of an image of a woman/man (called by catholics as mary, Fatima, Madonna any many more) carved by men like the pictures above?

What about baptism?

Today after the cross and after Pentecost we as John said was coming when he only Baptized with water, now by Christ Baptized by the Holy Ghost and with Fire
[h=3]Acts 1:5[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]5 [/SUP]For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

We have a before and an after the cross. Before under Law, after freed from the curse of trying to obey Law through flesh, to being Baptized by God the Father in the Spirit of God by the resurrected Christ. So that we serve in the new life

  1. John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
  2. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
  3. John 14:17 even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
  4. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Give reverence to things made by man? How do you mean? You are right, and I agree with you 100%. Anyone who worships false gods or things made by hands CANNOT BE CHRISTIANS!!

Actually could be if God has received them for God is able to:
[h=3]Romans 14:1-4[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

14 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. [SUP]3 [/SUP]Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. [SUP]4 [/SUP]Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Voluntary sorrow because it offends God, for having done something wrong, together with the resolve to amend one's conduct by taking the necessary means to avoid the occasions of sin. To repent is to be sorry for sin with self-condemnation. (Etym. Latin repoenitere, to be very sorry, regret intensely.)
What's you're answer?

To work at one's own salvation is of the self and admirable to those in this world, with pats on the back, but is in all a flesh works that keeps one in their sin.
Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Have you not been wondering why you continue to do the same thing over and over that you do not want to do?
Re-read the above verse and see it matters not whether one wants to do fleshly things or not. Just having the thoughts of flesh, especially when not wanting to do them, causes them to be done by one's emotions.
Emotions know no right or wrong, they simply respond to whatever is going on in the mind at the time.
Go to a scary movie, do you get scared, even while you know it is not real? So do you see as a man thinketh so shall he perform.
Praying God shows this to you, Brother

Repentance is to turn away from sin.

Ezek 18:30 “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.

Agreed, yet can this be done in one's flesh since by Christ all sin:
Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: ?

Christ is my life, Spiritually by Christ's resurrection from God. And is ny death to self via Christ's death.
I for me anyway, just am as King David when eh said:
Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Now for anyone else I trust those that believe God will:
[h=3]Romans 14:4[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

So all I can ever do is give God all the glory, and trust God to do through me what I never could do through self, and is why I have decided and asked God to please co-crucify me to and with Christ's death
Philippians 3:10
that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death

Philippians 3:11 if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

The doorway to life here and now is through death to self and is done by God through
Son

It is just a simple question. requiring a simple answer.
are you having difficulties saying "yes" or "no", just add ............ when it say it is short.

the definition given only relates where you can find the word Christian.

During those days, when someone repent and turn to God, believe in the Lord Jesus they were baptised the same day. (with the exception of john's followers (acts 19:2-5)

Today, some churches required many days of studying about baptism. (I do not know where they get that from)

after pentecost, baptism is a part of being a believer in Christ.

Having said that, there is no record that the apostles were baptised in water and yet they were called Christian.
Thanks.
Agree with you in general, but wouldn't like to go deep into this as it would start another topic of discussion.

What's you're answer?

Repentance entails the following:
- to look at sin the way God looks at it (Mt 5: 27-30)
(Eg. To the world lying is being smart, lust is normal, extramarital affairs are fun, smoking is style. Not to God.)
- a decision to leave a life of sin (resolve, ammend, reform) (Acts 26:20)
(Eg. Give up swear words, immoral relationships, sinful habits, addictions, pornography)
- to have godly grief (or sorrow) towards the wrong you have done and not regret leaving your sinful ways (2 Cor 7: 10-11)
(Eg. To be sorry because you have hurt God and not to be sorry because you can no longer enjoy sin)
- to turn towards God i.e. to live your life the way God wants you to (Acts 26:20)
(Eg. Just giving up sinful habits is not enough, you must live a life of godly purpose doing the will of God)
- display evidence that you have repented (2 Cor 7:11)
(Eg. Apologise, return stolen money, etc)

One cannot be a Christian if one hasn't repented (if one hasn't made that decision, it's not about being perfect)

Ok. They were worshipping the golden calf itself. But the ones kneeling in front of the statue of Mary are adoring what that statue represents, not the actual shaped concrete. Just like when we kneel in front of a wooden cross or a statue of Christ, we are showing reverence to what it represents, which is Christ, not the statue. Why do people keep getting this fact mixed up? It's really very simple for the logically minded. People keep comparing these two totally different acts, wrongfully. If I was told or taught to worship the concrete, I would leave the Catholic Church. Trust me.

Good question. If only it was answered truthfully!

The question was addressed to me, so I answer no, because as far as I can remember I never bought or carry a cross.
Maybe during my younger years I played with it.

Read exodus 32:4.
who brought the Israelites out of Egypt? God right.
when did they made the calf? after they were brought out of the land of Egypt.
They think of God and yet they revere the calf.
the same way you think of God and a statue is in front of you.

i will reply to this after work. But just so you know, you changed the whole meaning of that scripture you quoted just to wrong a catholic. Peace

If you really think I changed the meaning, read the whole chapter:
here's verse 5 and 6.
Exo32:5 And when Aaron saw it, he built analtar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast tothe LORD.

Feast to the Lord, not to the calf.

Exo 32:6 And theyrose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peaceofferings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

It just not wrong a catholic, but all idolatries. Muslims, Hindus, Budhist etc.

The same way, they have feast to the ......and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offering ....

Catholics are Christian but a lot of their teachings are not.

This isn't logical.

Catechism of the Catholic Church
