Are Tattoos Sinful?

Jennifer, I figured on covering for interviews. I already cover when applying places.

*burning, not cutting. And about that.... I'm still struggling with it. I haven't been clean very long. I plan to wait to start getting the tattoos until I'm at least 6 months clean.
 
Well good for you 6 months is a start I know dipping in ice water when I had urge helped it gives same feeling. Without. The scar. Also rubber band on wrist snap it 3 times when you have urge just a few suggestions
 
I've used the rubber band method at times. But I usually end up snapping it too much. So I primarily stick with coloring on myself with Sharpies.

Context is everything. In that context, Pagans were tattooing themselves for the dead. The verse is telling us not to tattoo our skin for the dead.

The majority of Christians, within orthodoxy, believe it is NOT a sin...
and they also believe it is just REALLY REALLY STUPID.

You've clearly already made up your mind,
because you've formulated extremely cogent answers to every possible objection.

Therefore, you need to stop BOTHERING everyone with your clever defense of tattoos,
and just go DO whatever it is you've ALREADY DECIDED to do.


If you've already made up your mind, this thread is pointless, and you're just wasting everyone's time.

The thread was suppose to be for discussing the topic of tattoos on general. I threw in the bit about my plans so that my stance on it was known right off the bat. The thread wasn't intended as a "should I or shouldn't I" thread. It was suppose to be a "what are your thoughts on the topic in general" thread. I must have mispoken in my original comment.

which you are personally "in favor of"...
and it's a topic which you are well prepared to "defend" against every possible "objection".

this is what we call DEBATE.

If you want to DEBATE something,
it's best to just say that.

When Al Gore designed the internet in the late 1980's, he was very specific in stating his intention was to create a place where we could all easily and instantaneously find ways to confirm our own biases.

I just completely forgot to consult with Al Gore on this one.
 
Do you think that if Jesus were here he would get a tatoo?? Nooooo I dont think so. Tatoos all in all are pagan or from gangs which we shouldnt identify with either.
Now also.. Your scars dont defile who you are. Your scars dont change you so why cover them? Your beautiful and dont need to cover a testimony for God and yourself (and your strenght to heal and make it) with ink.
But thats all just my opinion

If your time is being wasted it's because you chose to waste it lol

Anyway, my thoughts on tattoos are that they're fine and not stupid. I have one... considering getting another. If it's something you really want and it means something to you, then go for it. There's always going to be people that don't "get" them or don't like them, and people that will make a big fuss about it, but at the end of the day, it is your choice to make and it really doesn't matter.

Personally, I wouldn't get them. Yes, you say they will cover scars but how do you know the scars will not fade away....most do. Second reason why I wouldn't get one is they are permanent and as your body ages the tattoos will not look as good as when you first had them done. Most dream about getting a tattoo but fail to recognize what it may look like as you get older. Let's say you get a cute little butterfly on your ankle....twenty years from now it may look like a deformed insect. This past summer I wanted a tattoo of the word hope on my foot, so I got an airbrushed one to see if I liked it which I did, but as time went on I changed my mind which brings me to my last point, what if you changed your mind afterwards....you just can't simply erase it
