I think there has to probably be more witchcraft of the type people are suggesting are in the Chronicles of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings in a story about talking vegetables than in either of those two stories...Rather or not the witch is on the screen...

Are you who think that just because they talk about Jesus that they have to be good...remember the Lord said not everyone who says, Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven...

Yes, they are liars!!! Their two main characters; a tomato and a cucumber, are both FRUITS! They are lying to children and giving them false expectations of what a veggie is! Not to mention there is a grape, and probably some other fruits as well!

I happen to like Veggie Tales. And, as far as witchcraft goes... I do agree that the Chronicles of Narnia may have a hint of that stuck in there ;-) But I think Veggie Tales is one of the best cartoons that you could let a child watch, as far as being a "good entertainment" program. All the others are way worst. I just think it's a good alternative for children opposing to the others that are being showed out there.

Okay, here's my thought on the Veggie Tales.

Someone said, "we should come up with a way to teach Christian morals to kids in a way that will make them want to pay attention."
Someone else said, Hey, wouldn't it be cute if a bunch of talking vegetables ran around acting out stories that teach character and moral lessons based on the Bible. It would be full of bright colors and fun for the kids to watch and they would pay attention and learn something good at the same time" Someone else said, "yeah, good idea, you draw them, we'll find a group of people to act out their voices."

Now no where in those cartoons is there any insinuation that some "spell has been cast on these vegetables to make them come to life" or anything. They are just colorful cartoon characters with cutsie little names that grab the children's attention and which they like to watch. Once kids get to a certain age, if you, as a parent, don't have sense enough to teach your child that vegetables really can't talk and those things on TV are just drawings so they understand there is nothing "magical" about them, your best option is just throw out every television in your house and not allow your child to watch it at all, as it is all doused with animated cartoon characters that talk and act lifelike.

Are you who think that just because they talk about Jesus that they have to be good...remember the Lord said not everyone who says, Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven...

That verse speaks about those who call Jesus Lord, but never really came to him in faith alone to be saved(ie:they added works of some sort). The Will of the Father is for those to believe in the Son(TRUSTING in Him ALONE for Salvation).

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 7:21

"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40

I think a better verse illustrates satan deceiving people by transforming himself into an angel of light:

"But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:12-14

satan often times does not appear to people as the stereotypical "horns on the head" type of thing. But deceptive in that he portrays himself as GOOD and GODLY.

and as for the chronicals of narnia and witchcraft if u have ever read the books as well as the any of the other works by christian author c.s lewis you would know that he is a "story teller" and in the telling of any story there is "good" and "Evil" or a bad guy and a good guy the lion is a direct referance to christ and the witch is a direct referance to "the devil" in this story he tells how man fall and how christ died and rose again to save us from death and sin. blind freddy could tell that the story is the story of christ.

if u want to read another book by c.s lewis try reading the screwtape letters in which screwtape is a demon instructor instructing other demonds how to deceve man and to make him sin its a very interesting read

I do! Especially I like those potatoes who waltz down the produce aisle.

Is veggie tales of the devil? Are you guys SERIOUSLY thinking this? Like, seriously? This show talks about God, shows that God's not a big bad guy, teaches the ten comnmandments, yadda yadda yadda. Yeah, I'm sure this show rings "SATAN" all over it. (sarcasm)

Goodness, this thread made me laugh. Veggie tales are NOT of the devil.

Yeah i kind of thought it was absurd to suggest that the 'Veggie Tales' were evil, but I also think it is nearly equally absurd to think CS Lewis' Narnia series or The trilogy by JRR Tolkein is 'wicked.'

So I began to wonder if the Bible ever used its imagination to see if perhaps 'our imaginations always lead us astray."

What verse came to mind is how Jesus said, "They strain out a gnat and swallow a camel."

I think we all know Jesus never sinned, so either he indulges in a fantasy comparison or the Pharisees physically swallowed whole camels...but all of Mathew 23 is also helpful on this. Were the scribes and pharisees really physical snakes? Or was Herod a fox (I said wrongly Pontius Pilate in a thread forgive me)?

What this goes to proove is that fantasy is not all evil...and as witch-like or wizard-like it would have been if Jesus made them open their mouths and swallow camels...while straining out gnats...it wasn't real...Jesus was using a fantasy example of avoiding something incredible small to only commit something greivous...

I think these passages suggest that we can use our imaginations...not only in the Veggie Tales...but also in looking at Gandalf as a character of fiction that though he is some time of 'fantasy wizard', he is not evil...he is fantasy...

And you can use fantasy to portray God...

God's blessings of light
