So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Genesis 2:21
After the Bible mentions about God putting Adam into a deep sleep it never mentions waking him. Do you think this is on purpose? Or are we to assume he did since we're here? If we have been sleeping are we all the subconscious part of Adam and Eve? Perhaps that is why we are born sinners? Are we creating our own reality?
Thanks blueluna5 for your question. Adam was a picture of Christ, a figure of Christ (or however you want to say it). The 'deep sleep' mentioned is parable language for a 'judgment death' which God caused Adam to undergo in order to create Eve. Whereas Adam is a picture of Christ, Eve is a picture of Christ's bride, which are the true believers. In order to create the true believers Christ had to experience a judgment death on the cross during which his side was pierced. When Genesis talks about God putting Adam through a deep sleep, it is like saying Jesus died on the cross. We read about the term 'deep' being a word pertaining to judgment in Psalm 36:6: ' thy judgments
are a great
deep'. We read about the term 'sleep' being a parable term for death in John chapter 11: ' Then said his disciples, Lord, if he
sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit
Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.' The Bible is written in parable form (Psalm 78:1-2, Mark 4:34) so that surface texts have a deeper meaning, no pun intended.
"Give ear, O my people,
to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable..." God's law, the Bible, is written as a surface text with a deeper or hidden meaning.
