Are you bold to talk to the Creator?
The order is clear:
• Heb 4:16 -> “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”.
Nonetheless, in the Holy Scripture we can see many cases in what people feared before the Creator:
1 – Jacob (when he was running away from Esau after cheating him):
• Gen 28:16,17 -> “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”;
2 – People who was with Daniel:
• Dan 10:7 -> “And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.”.
3 – The Roman soldiers who was designed to keep Jesus’ sepulcher:
• Mat 28:2-4 -> “And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: and for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.”.
4 – Israel’s people in the Mount Sinai (even Moses, in the beginning):
• Heb 12:18-21 -> “For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: and so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake
".
And even pious people fear before the Creator. For instance:
5 – Zechariah:
• Luk 1:13 -> “But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.”
6 – Cornelius:
• Act 10:2-4 -> “A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.”.
7 – Even John, a intimate apostle of Jesus, in the Island of Patmos:
• Rev 1:17 -> “And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:”.
On the other hand, we can read about the prophets who weren’t afraid of talking to the Creator. We can highlight:
1 – Moses (after acquiring more intimacy with the Creator):
• Num 12:7-8 -> “My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”.
2 – Abraham:
• Isa 41:8 -> “But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.”.
These two men had a level of intimate relationship so great that:
• Abraham was called a friend;
• The Creator spoke to Moses as a human being speaks to each other.
And about us? In what group are we?
1 – In the group of those who are afraid of the Creator’s presence in virtue of the judgment that, certainly, will come in virtue of our sins?
• Amo 6:10,11 -> “And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD. For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. ”.
2 – In the group of people that, although they say that believe in the Creator, live as if He was far away and unaware of everything that takes place in this world:
• Zep 1:12 -> “And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.”.
3 – In the group of those who ache for Jesus’ presence?
• Rev 22:20 -> “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”.
So, have a great day taking away of your life everything that precludes you of enthralling Jesus’ attention (Isa 64:7).
