Are you poor? Be rich in Christ Jesus!
Altruism only exists in the dictionary because someone invented this word. Although this word sounds beautiful, marvelous, it isn’t. Let’s suppose that a husband, for example, acts only caring for his wife. At first, this looks romantic, but if this is truth, this means that the joy of the wife isn’t his.
He sacrificed himself for his wife, in this case, because she is convenient for him and, thus, he desires to keep her close to him.
It’s not in vain that the second great commandment of the law is:
• Mat 22:39 -> “And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”.
If the husband care for his wife for loving of himself, this means that his gaiety is to see his wife elated, healthy, etc. In other words, her presence in his life is what makes his life to add up. This sounds better, doesn’t it?
Notwithstanding, we can’t neglect the great commandment of the grace:
• Joh 13:34,35 -> “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. As I have loved you, you should also love one another. By this all shall know that you are My disciples, if you have love toward one another.”
On the other hand, if the husband loves his wife for Jesus’ love, this means that Jesus and everyone who belongs to Him and comes from Him is the reason of his life and relish. As his wife was done specially for him (Gen 2:18,24), he will love him, not at the way that she long for being loved, nor at the way that he desires to love her, but as Jesus love her.
So, if you are rich, don’t trust this wealth because it will attract to you bad friends too:
• Pro 19:6 -> “Many will beg the favor of a ruler, and all are friends to a man who gives gifts.”.
• Pro 14:20 -> “The poor is hated even by his own neighbor, but the rich has many friends.”.
If you are poor, seek in Christ make people rich (2Cor 6:10) inasmuch as:
• Pro 10:15 -> “The rich man's wealth is his strong city; *the ruin of the poor is their poverty* .”.
• Pro 19:4 -> “Wealth makes many friends; but *the poor is separated from his neighbor* .”.
• Pro 19:7 -> “ *All the brothers of the poor man hate him*; how much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are lacking.”.
Ultimately, have a good day emptying yourself so that there are room in your heart for the spiritual wealth which can oust of your life the false friends, transform those who really crave for a changing of life and above all: keep the true friends more and more close to you, chiefly your spouse.
