Are you proud? If yes, what are you doing to sort out this flimsiness in your life?
• Pro 16:18,19 -> “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”.
In order to see how terrible is the proudness, let’s take the example of the Philistines:
• Zec 9:6 -> “And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.”.
See what they had courage to do with the Israelites in virtue of their haughtiness:
• Amo 1:6 -> “Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:”.
• Amo 1:7 -> “But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:”.
• Amo 1:8 -> “And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.”.
They hatred the Israelites in such a point that they carried away the whole captivity (that is to say, “a complete captivity;”). This was a captivity in which none were spared, nor left behind; both old or young, woman or child, the whole population was swept away.
To worse the things, they deliver them up to Edom, aiming “to shut them up to Edom,”. That is to say, deliver they to the power of Edom, their bitter enemy, so that they should not be able to run away, nor be restored.
The result was thorough destruction on the Philistines. So much so that they vanished from the Earth.
So, be careful in order not to get your heart taken by arrogance and induce you to fill your heart of malignity against those who hurt you and, with this, bring the day of wrath against you too (Rom 2:5).
