I had a new experience a few months ago that I didn't really come to appreciate until recently. Several threads here on CC had sort of shaped my view of this idea of 'love at first sight.' It seemed that a lot of people seemed to think that lust alone was possible at first sight. As a play on the idea of the L word, this was an effective counter. This experience of mine sort of shook my view of these things, though.

I have been attracted to a girl's beauty(fail); I've been attracted to a girl's personality/mind(fail). Recently, though I encountered a seemingly new sort of attraction to a girl from church. Though she was cute, I wasn't struck by her body(or beauty). We only spoke for 30 seconds, I knew almost nothing about her. And yet, I found that she really stood out.

So I'm left wondering. It certainly wasn't love, by the definition I've come to use; it certainly wasn't lust. I've had crushes, I've been in love; this is different. So I'm left wondering, is there another L word that explains this? I'd like to think that maybe the Holy Spirit moved and brought forth this new desire in me, but that seems like it may just be wishful thinking.

Anyone experienced something like this? Is it possible to connect with someone on a deep spiritual level without knowing anything about their theology or beliefs? What do you believe?

I believe in ______ at first sight.

I have to say that i believe in a first impression from direct interaction. But that is me, some people i know can almost sense you from across the room.

I believe in chocolate at first sight. :)

Seriously, I think you can feel a definite connection with someone upon first meeting them, but I don't know if I would call it love. Infatuation, maybe? Which can eventually become love...

Sometimes, rarely, I meet a girl and feel an amazing, powerful, instant connection.

Then I do a background check.
: )

Yeah, this was one that I was struggling with. Infatuation seemed to have too many negative connotations.

Infatuation is the state of being carried away by unreasoned passion or love - Wikipedia
A foolish, unreasoning, or extravagant passion or attraction. - FreeDictionary
Infatuation is falling in love with or becoming extremely interested in someone or something for a short time - Vocabulary.com

I would call the few crushes I've had 'infatuations', but this is different. It has now been 5 or 6 months since the first meeting. The feeling hasn't really changed. We've become friends, and had a few pretty in depth conversations. Its been really interesting, but nothing I've learned has really had any affect on that feeling. I wasn't surprised by any of it, almost like in those 30 seconds I had already understood it all. But it was just a feeling, hard to describe.

I'm not trying to debate, I'm just trying to deal with what really has kind of shaken my view of some things. I know it's not love, I know it's not lust. Infatuation? Possibly, but it's unlike any infatuation that I've had in the past. Because of the strangeness of it all, I have been praying about it quite a lot. Recently, after talking to God about it I began to wonder if there was such a thing as a spirit attraction. As though God was sharing with me things that I couldn't possibly know. But as I'm sure a few *cough* PopClick *cough* can attest I am pretty wary of direct intervention from the Holy Spirit. I know that God can do powerful things, so maybe I believe in more-than-infatuation at first sight. But I still don't know what that could be. :)

All I can say is->we are spiritual beings. And (sometimes) I just 'click' even with a stranger.

I don't know, but I do find it interesting that Issac and Rebbecca seemed to fall in love at first sight. Maybe because they were chosen of the Lord for each other. I've heard several testimonies about how when people had met the mate God had for them, God showed them they were the one and majority of the time they questioned God and said, "Huh-ah not them. I wonder if I'm going to do that :). Of course, they're not going to do that about me, lol. Well, gotta go, got running to do. I pray God send every searching single person on here the sweetest, love of their life <3. Sincerely, Rose

I'd probably "classify" it as attraction. You felt some sort of connection and now you're intrigued by it. I don't know what you talked about, but sometimes there's just that "something" about a person that draws your attention to them. I'd say that's at least some form of attraction, and not necessarily a shallow one. :)

This is simple and the answer is that there really isn't a word for what you're describing. This is a good thing because you can make up your own word for it, like, "I believe in fantabulia all the time." :D

If you didn't notice, I'm kidding. I'd consider this a spiritual infatuation, since you seemed to connect on a spiritual level.

Yeah, the conversation went kind of like this "Good morning, I'm <me>, is this your first time coming here? Oh that's cool, I haven't been coming for very long. So are you still in college? Oh, my mom graduated from that school." Maybe graduating from the same school as my mom is what did it! :P

Well, it sounds as if you feel blessed about it, so why not just enjoy it for whatever it is and not try to overthink it, my friend :)

So what you're saying is 'yes, now shut-up about it, you don't need to find a word to explain it'? :P

No. I'm just trying to say that you just 'click' with her. But that doesn't always mean-L word. For example-some years ago-> I met a total stranger. And we just clicked-we had this amazing, meaningful, deep-conversation. It took us less thn hour to talk from heart to heart. But that's it-we went our separate ways.

And I have no other explanation/s thn the one/s already- above mentioned.

Seriously, take Jullianna's advice-and try not to overthink it. Just enjoy your life! :) There's no need to complicate things.

Not an 'L' word, but from what you describe, I think the word "intrigue" works well. If being intrigued by someone doesn't sound intense enough to describe what you are feeling, then then word you are looking for is "crush."

Whenever someone uses the phrase "the 'L' word," it makes me think of the goofy conversation in Scott Pilgrim.
