yeah but still he ate and drank with them because they needed him just as the ones who are unsaved or unclean need our light

Bad company in reference would be like throwing your pearls among swine. Bad company would be like the religious elite of Jesus's day. Bad company would be the type you would dust off your feet and move on to the next town.

Not disagreeing but simply saying one doesn't stay clean if they only wallow in the mud. We are not 100% like Jesus. We still struggle with temptation, sin, sinful emotions, and need a foundation to reconnect with. Discipleship and fellowship with mature Christians is crucial to that effort.

ok fair point

In Romania we say "Tell me who you associate with and I'll tell you who you are".

We don't chose our relatives, our collegues, our coworkers, our neighbours, but we do chose our friends and spouse. Bad company does affect good character and those who are in danger of this influence are the teenagers whose development (of character) is not fully completed.

Psalm 1:
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Edit: I believe not only people can influence badly the character, but all we chose to surround ourselves with: music, movies, games, books etc.

We also have this exact same expression in Albania too.
The next level up expression from this is "Let the dogs bark, the caravan moves forward" which Biblically is understood as "Shake the dust off your feet and move on".

Matthew 10:14

Or another more colorful version of this "keep playing the drums because you play them beautifully".

Which is understood culturally as "keep playing bro, nobody is listening".

Very true. We must guard the heart, mind, and soul from corruption. Especially teaching the youth the dangers of association even if they are not directly involved.
