I am evaluating whether I want to be baptized as an adult?
I have heard both arguments for baptism as a confessing believer and familial member of Christ;s body.
Both have valid points and both have shortcomings
I was baptized as an infant, but I wonder now if that was correct or the most beneficial?
It seems to me unnecessary to be baptized because I am already in Christ,
but I wonder if it would help my sanctification as an adult?
If I had children I would raise them in the faith,
but I wonder if I would baptize them as infants?
I am writing this to better understand the subject and to better understand the reasoning of it?
Infant baptism does not apply for a person has to have an understanding, and a conscious decision to repent and accept Christ.
Also their angels always beholds the face of the Father for the little ones.
So they are innocent and have no sin on their record.
Also being in Christ does not mean water baptism does not apply.
Infant baptism does not do anything and does not cover them for the future.
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.
Some people say baptism is for Church identification or to confess your faith in Christ.
But baptism is to identify with Christ's death.
We have to identify with the man Christ Jesus which He died, was buried, and rose again, which we repent die out to sin, and are baptized laying down those sins, and rising to newness of life.
You cannot cut out the middle man.
1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Water baptism does now save us.
Also Jesus said He came in the Father's name.
The Son inherited the name.
The Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus.
Jesus said baptize in the name of the the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, but those are titles not names and name is singular.
Jesus is the name.
Which Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans, were all baptized in Jesus' name.
And everything we do in word and deed do all in the name of Jesus.
So why would we baptize in the titles.
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
