KJV Dictionary Definition: REMISSION
Forgiveness; pardon; that is, the giving up of the punishment due to a crime; as the remission of sins. Matt. 26. Heb. 9.

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
(NOTE: Without Christ's shed blood there is NO Remission/Pardon for sins.)

Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
(NOTE: It's Belief/faith in Christ's sinless shed blood & resurrection that provides Remission/pardon for sins. NOT the act of water baptism)

Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
(NOTE: John the Baptist is sent to preach, the BAPTISM of REPENTANCE. That they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.)

Acts 13:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
(NOTE: John the Baptist is sent to preach, the Baptism of Repentance to All the People of ISRAEL. To Prepare the way for the coming LORD. Isa 40:3, Matt 3:3, Mk 1:3, Lk 3:4. Through whom remission/pardon of sin would be realized)

Mar 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
(NOTE: John the son of a Temple Priest & devote Jew, sent Jews only. To prepare them for the coming Lord. The priesthood & many of the people were walking/living the wrong way. Repent = change your mind & purpose TOWARDS God. Water Baptism/Tvilah/tevilah/Mikva/Mikveh was a long standing Jewish ritual cleansing.)

Tvilah/tevilah/Mikva/Mikveh: Forerunner of baptism today
Jewish water purification rituals/ablutions. Ceremonial acts of washing parts of the body or sacred containers. Mosaic law mandated many ceremonial water purification rituals/ablutions

Priestly dudies required different mikveh types to perform various ablutions in their services; see Ex 39:4; Ex 30:19-21; Ex 40:12; Lev 6:27; Lev 13:54, Lev 13:58; Lev 14:8-9; Levs 15:16; Lev 16:4, Lev 16:24; Lev 22:6.

Purification rituals/ablutions/full mikveh examples:

1) A woman was impure 7 days, starting at the beginning of her menstrual flow & child birth (Lev: 12:2, 15:19, 20-23). During there times, touching her, her bed or anything she had sat on would become unclean until evening. And had to wash thier cloths & bath with water. Full mikveh = jewish ritual purification (where we get baptism today).

2) Proselyte's = Any gentile wanting to convert to Judaism was weldomed. However, they had to agree: To adhere to Mosaic Law, bring a sin sacrifice to the Temple Priest, get circumcised & under go a full (immersion) milveh = jewish water purification ritual.

3) Lev 1:1-12 All Priests underwent Full mikveh : Moses instructs Aaron to full (immersion) milveh, then anointed him with oil. And Aaron become's, High Priest, after the order of Levi (Levitical order)

4) Every woman was required to undergo full mikveh during her betrothal in preperation for marriage.

John's BAPTISM of REPENTANCE: Focus/change your mind & direction towards God, wash/clean yourself up inside & out in preparation of meeting your long time promised Messiah. Who will remiss/forgive/padron your sins. Read Ex chapter 19 the washing & other preparation given before meeting the Lord. Add John's stated purpose: Prepare the way of the Lord: Mal 3:1, Matt 3:3, Mk 1:2, Mk 1:3, Lk 3:4.

Water baptism doesn't remiss sin, repentance doesn't remiss sin, obedience doesn't remiss sin, sabbath observance doesn't remiss sin, tithing doesn't remiss sin.

Faith & Faith alone, placed in the finished sin redemptive work & resurrection of Christ. Is the only way anyone's sins are remissed/pardoned! All the credit, all the glory, all the praise belongs to our great God & Savior, Jesus the Christ!
