I don't want a debate on whether a woman is to have a head covering or not, whether it is cultural or a Command of God...I just want to know what is meant in context 'because of the angels.
 
I honestly would like to believe you are seeking understanding for this passage.... but I am keeping my eye on you... cuz I think you already have determined what the passage means.

Plainly, I think it means EXACTLY what it says.... there is a host of heaven watching us and angels to watch over us... and that is exactly what it is referring to.

How is that? no mention of .... err... you know... what you said?
 
Authority seems to be the focus, and the application comes out of understanding authority.
In this way, the principle behind why Paul instructs this specific thing, actually can apply to many many instructions, and applies to men also.

Worship is not just a weekly event, but the daily grind of living for the Lord.

This specific phrase also brings in the role of angels.
Messengers, ministers, helpers... but also liars, manipulators, and destroyers.
The authority over the individual either protects them... or leaves them open for attack.

In marriage, the man has responsibility over his right women. The woman is a responder and the man is naturally objective.


"Because of the angels" is from the day of Noah. The angels came into the daughters of men and had no men that were responsible...........kinda like todays world huh?.....men are pretty much shoved in the grave if one isn't acting like a lady!

If these men, in Noahs day, would of been responsible(Authority) over their woman......the angels wouldn't of been able to "capture" their responding nature.

I guess I picture the Holy Spirit having that authority and protection...I'm not quite connecting I guess.

True, I have my own convictions concerning the passage but I am a little puzzled concerning the phrase, 'because of the angels'.

He is the seal of authority, and the internal guide. Yes, He is the authority I was reading to (our covering is the blood of Christ, but the seal of that authority is the HS)

But there are external spiritual things also. That is why the angels are also called "ministering spirits" and also demons.
The authority of the Name of Jesus, sealed upon us by the Spirit, brings protection and help,
where as without such authority, we are open to attack.

I like that angle but in the passage I don't see Paul bringing in man's responsibility towards the woman...but maybe.

Also I am not sure what you mean by 'capture their responding nature'.

ok, so why are the women singled out in this passage since that is the function of angels under most all circumstances?

I think there's two spiritual images at play.
One is from genesis, with the fallen angels of old.
And the second, is the Bride of Christ.

There's a physical "object lesson" (which may or may not be applicable to modern use, even though it has some practical wisdom behind the practice of head covering),
and the spiritual significance, which is always relevant.

The brother asked a question from the heart and you simply couldn't take it at face value. You had to throw in your little condescending negative snippet as always. I have noticed Utah seems to think he possess omniscience... he cannot just read the words as... maybe I notice Crossnote seems to have a pretty well formed theology... so my inclination is... he isn't just asking cuz he hasn't thought about it considerably already.

Mine would only be my opinion, and because I'm not getting the 'angel' thing, it would be an incomplete opinion.

Oh, I don't deny I have convictions about the whole passage but yeah, this part is a bit out there for me. Care to add your take, now that I'm safe :)

The covering a woman should have over her head is Jesus Christ because the fallen angels are coming back, as it was during the time of Noah. God bless

Fallen angels coming back? Why wouldn't it also pertain to men as well?

well since you asked.....

I kinda lean toward what LT was saying. <pauses to put on fireproof suit> I believe firmly that women SHOULD be under some form of male authority...and without it... they are vulnerable to wrong spirits and that "the thing we aren't supposed to mention" is/was a form of outward sign to the heavenly host.

I do take intoi account there are "abandoned" and "rejected" women... but that is not the same as REBELLIOUS women.
